M1 Garand

Looking to buy this classic semi-auto rifle. Any suggestions? Price ranges, what to look for?

If you qualify, I would recomend the CMP.

Retail prices are going to be upwards of $1000 for one in good condition (depends on the store). The CMP is great, but it takes a bit to qualify. I got my Garand from the CMP for $325, but I had to join the GCA ($30) and prove I had my 03 FFL ($30), fill out the form, get it notorized ($10). So all in all it was about $400 bucks through the CMP.

Outside the CMP you are looking at $700 and up for even worn examples. I paid $650 a couple years ago for a beautiful (and I mean mint) Korean era H&R Garand and consider myself fortunate. It is not supposed to happen but there are people out there passing off beat up CMP rack grades for that much or more in many cases.

Check into the Field Grade Springfield Armorys at the CMP.

I don't know man I don't get many frags using it in DOD-S

lol, this is just for nostalgic sakes and it will be taken to the range from time to time.

Part of the appeal is the WW2 history and the big loud PING when it's time to reload.

Have a few friends with them. They all say the replicated version from Springfield Armory is the best. Quality parts and it shoots well.

I would never own one for myself, but thats my recommendation if you have to get it.

If that's the case, you definatly need to check out the CMP.

Don't waste time though, because they don't have many available and eventually they will all be gone.

Yep, The Enfield No.5 Jungle Carbine in .303 british. The most punishing gun I own to shoot. I've wussed out and slipped a recoil pad on the butt which has taken the pounding down from bone shattering to just bone jarring.

How did you end up with a piece of it in you, receiver blow up on you?
