So here is a video of the Local News Station interviewing this dumbass.

http://www.kpho.com/video?clipId=9014516&autostart=true

The mind blowing part is the Insurance lady says as long as there wasn't any criminal activity, the guy's insurance should cover it. The interviewer asks again for clarification "So speeding and racing, the insurance would cover it?" she responds with "Yes".

That's fucking retarded.

He should have been on the outside lane to start that turn right?

The way he did it he was basically trying to take a 90 degree turn, instantly, at high speeds?

Also, doesn't sand **** you up? When I hit sand at like 10 mph I feel like I'm sliding, I can't imagine racing on a curvy desert cliff road.

If I have it right he's like somewhere southeast of LA, maybe in the mountains east of San Diego... could be a lot of places actually. Anyway, those roads don't really get that sandy. Or at least I never encountered enough to catch my notice on the main two-laners. I think this young fool's problem was a really poor line and excessive speed going into the curve. In all of the curves leading up to the disaster his lines were also really bad. In short, he learned to drive fast playing GTA or something.

22 years old eh? Guess insurance providers got it right deciding to lower premiums at 25 for males.

Actually this took place out by Roosevelt Lake (actually it's closer to Canyon than Roosevelt) which is about an hour or so east of Phoenix, but close though!

*edit*If I had to guess, looks like the accident would have happened here.

What sucks is that everybody else suffers because of the dumasses.

When I got a car I had to put it in my dad's name and his insurance since there was no way I could actually afford insurance on it. I was driving an old Buick Lesabre, do you really think someone driving such a grandpa car is going to do dangerous driving? LOL. Paid like 2k for the car, they wanted like over 5k per year LOL. WTF is that shit? highway robbery right there.

It's also sickening that car insurance is mandatory. Must be nice to be in a business where it's illegal if people don't buy your product. I drive used cars, I always pay under 5k. If I had the choice I'd rather save myself a couple hundred bucks a month and take the chance that I get in an accident and end up spending a grand or two to fix it. I'm over 25 now so at least I don't get robbed as badly, and have my own now.

Last I checked, racing and speeding were illegal on public roads...isn't that criminal activity? Maybe they mean it needs to be a felony or something?

I feel for you. My daughter is 17, and even with good student discounts and driving a $6000 car, her insurance is close to $1500 a year. My wife and I are insured on 3 vehicles and our combined insurance with a $250 deductible is only $800.

This is why the front tires on my car are wider than the rear tires on his car and < 300 tread rating.

Am I seeing it correctly that the side airbags deploy when he gets airborn? If so, that's a rather cool feature that I was not aware of.

Roll detection I think. They go off when the car starts to roll. Probably also takes into account that it is not moving in the direction in which its pointed.

Wow way to take a single small sentence out of context. Maybe it was the wrong choice of words. What I really meant was, I don't get how they can get away with this crap. How come I have to pay more than what the car is worth, it makes zero sense. And why do I have to pay for other people's damage (essentially the reason why it's so damn high). Insurance should also be optional. I wonder how hard I have to lobby the government so they make it illegal for people to not buy my product.

Isn't that why minimum coverage by law is typically PLPD? Or to put it another way "You can take risks with your car, but your not taking risks with my car."

That would sorta make sense I guess. Though even minimum insurance is a couple grand a year. Before I was 25 they wanted 5 grand LOL. Though the way it should work is if you have no insurance you have to pay out of pocket if you damage someone else's car so if you want to take the risk, you can. That's what the court of law is for. Drivers like in the video definitly would want to take the insurance, but people who never get in an accident could choose to just take the risk, and have a reserve of cash. Imagine if you could take the money that goes towards insurance and just invest it instead. You could buy a pretty nice car later on.

I don't trust people to have 40k in cash to buy me a new car/medical.

I'd much rather some reasonable bond instead of insurance. Say if they can put up a 20k bond then they do not need to carry insurance. At least that way if they hit a reasonably new car they can cover some of the expense and I wouldn't need to carry such a high level of coverage to protect myself against irresponsible drivers.

But otherwise we might as well just tell everyone they are on their own and go nation wide no fault. Because you know 90% of the people on the road don't even have a penny saved for retirement, let alone for damaging your property.

I'm pretty sure that in TX you can use a bond in lieu of liability insurance.

The problem comes in when the bond is not enough to cover damages. I'd much rather them come after the insurance co than me.

My insurance is $55 a month. It covers my 2002 BMW. Full coverage. Lots of extra's. I think $500,000 coverage for others if I hit them. If you own any assets at all you're a fool for not upping all the limits. Then I have $1,000,000 coverage on my house to cover any lawsuits (going to up that to 5 million for $25 a month more).

Anyone who says they don't want insurance is because they most likely don't have spit to their name. And know that if anyone comes after them they have nothing to give so they don't care and would rather save the monthly payment. Selfish people.

A lot of times insurance is based on your credit too. Those high payments can also be an indication of irresponsible with money. Which a lot of times translates into irresponsibility in life and driving. Hence higher risk.

Do you REALLY not know the purpose of insurance?

Exactly, but modified for a more realistic situation.
The guy who hit us a few years ago didn't have shit to his name, but he had insurance. We would have been out of luck if he hadn't. We would have gone to court, got a settlement, and received $50 a month from the loser's paycheck for eternity. Does that pay for $48k in medical bills or a new $56k car?

no, that's most certainly NOT the way it should work because people with no money wouldn't give a fuck.

So other than Red Squirrel owning himself yet again, the main reason for the bump was a generous insurance company? Do not patronize that insurance company, and surely you have nothing to complain about? I am down to $240 a half year, and Snapshot helped get it that low. Even though you have to have insurance in most states, there is usually more competition in those states.

To play devil's advocate: at least this guy wasn't sitting in the left lane doing 50MPH in a 70 with his brake lights on. Or slowing down to 5 MPH to take a turn even the most decrepit driver could take at 15 +.

I'll continue hating the overly passive drivers, and you guys have fun at the more rare overly-aggressive ones. (Varies by location)
