I didn't think this thread would be as useful / popular. If I get a chance/remember I'll try and round all the apps up and link them...unless someone else would do the honors. I know this forum has a lot of fence sitters (pssst...come to the dark side, we have candy!) , if we had a quick list tacked to the top of the forums dedicated to great software (and perhaps discounts?!?!) I'd love it.
I find that there are MANY MANY programs available for OSX that are designed for very niche tasks, etc....while there are tons of exclusive programs that offer functionality NOT available on Windows, there are even more programs exclusively on OSX that will do the job better than the Windows equivalent.
With that said, most people view Apple products as luxury, high-end, etc products and for that reason do not purchase them. Most people still use computers for work applications and do not feel the need to spend extra for an Apple but the truth is the extra money is justified in the software and overall user experience. I have not met ANYONE who has used OSX who did not prefer its simplicity/elegance over windows.
TheStreet.com has an interesting 2-3 minute interview with Jim Cramer about the effect teens are having on macintosh sales and apple products in general. In terms of ipods, teens these days view ipods as more than just music players...they are status symbols at this point. Same is happening with the Mac line. Besides aesthetic appeal, teens are finding that the experience on an Apple is really on another level compared with mom & dad's HP or dell machine.
