I just picked up a Mac Mini 1.42 w/ 256Mb ram and 80Gb HD for $449! They included a Kensington SlimType Mac keyboard and an el-cheapo USB mouse. Not a bad deal!

isn't that supposed to be the normal price? If you're saving something like $50 its because you're getting the old 256MB version which isn't enough ram for OSX. I'd suggest you use the saved money and grab some ram, it'll really help.

apple sells the new 512 version with 80gig hard drive for 599 but that's 1 dimm.

but I"m sure you can find an extra 512 dimm for less than 150 for the older version

The extra RAM doesn't make a difference, but the new 1.42GHz Mini comes with built-in Airport + Bluetooth. Yes you can add a USB WIFI bluetooth adapter to the older ones, but not that convenient IMHO.

remember: the mac mini only has 1 internal ram slot, so keep that in mind when you plan your upgrades. Also, it is VERY hard to open a mini without damaging it. Work the sides when wedging the cover off, as prodding near the front and back have a higher chance of damaging internals. When reapplying the cover, align the clips to the rear of the case first before sliding the front back down. I've only done it a few times. With care, you can perform this operation with minimal evidence.

Good deal if you don't need wireless.

Buy a 1GB DIMM, a putty knife, and some sand paper.

Well... There's no such thing as a free lunch. The reason these things are cheap is because they come preloaded with System 10.3. And Apple doesn't give a crap. So if you're looking for Tiger, you have to front the $130 for the upgrade! There may be possibilities for PM to Compusa however...

The free iPod Mini is for the 2nd generation 4 GB model; $180 is the educational pricing. Basically its $180 off any iPod purchase $180 or greater, meaning you can apply it to a more expensive iPod model if you want. Both the $100 printer rebate and iPod rebate are stackable. Its a great time to be a college student! or teacher!

That deal with the free ipod mini does not work with the mac mini.

off of the rebate form, "Shop for your Mac.
The following computers qualify for this offer: all PowerBook models, all iMac models, all Power Mac models, and all iBook models excluding the 12-inch iBook CD."

Notice no mac mini.

bgroff, can you please tell me from which fry's did you pick it up from and on your receipt can you please give me the PLU (Part Number). I've gone to 3 different Fry's in the Dallas area and none of them have that deal. They only have the 1.25 for $444 and I'd really like to pick up the $449 1.45.

Thanks
