ROTFLMAO!!!

Exactly why with steps like the Mac Mini, Apple may actually increase their userbase. I wouldn't say the Mini is perfect, but it's one helluva step in the right direction.

As a PC enthusiast, I actually bought the Mac Mini because it was the perfect way for me to try OS X without paying a lot. It's a good value at $494 considering they bundle iLife, iWorks, and all the other software they have on there.

I have it connected to my Dell 2001fp, PC USB keyboard and mouse so I can easily switch between PC and Mac Mini.

After a week of use - It's just a really cool operating system, much simpler to manage and use than WinXP. I love playing with it, using iPhoto to create cool slideshows, running iTunes so I can pickup the playlist off my PC. It's small and sleek so that's cool to. It's not really quiet - when you begin using any heavy app it's fans start up.

I've got 512MB installed in it (upgraded my self, which was much harder to do than on a PC), and with that it does better than a PC at the same level, so it's more efficient.

But when it's time to get work done, I switch to the PC. It's all about speed-to-value and app support and the PC wins that hands down.

I could see using a Power Mac G5 for work too, except I would have to pay twice as much to get the same PC I have now in terms of hardware and software.

But for mutlimedia play, and extra server, and cool factor I will keep the Mac Mini

My 0.02

I guess that the subtlety is lost on me, because that review really sucks. It reads like it was written by a Windows zealot who knows jack about Mac hardware. Perhaps that was that the point, perhaps, but I still didn't see the humor in it.

Yes, that was the point. The review was meant to be ironic.

"but consumers need to be aware that once they add on the basics like a keyboard, monitor and mouse, plus shell out for some antivirus software, the Mac mini price is scraping the ceiling of $1600, hardly a ?computer for the rest of us."

I'd like to see what monitor, keyboard, and mouse he's using. :disgust:

Edit: How about a review from a more reputable source than "divisiontwo.com"?

They should have offered a G5 version, that's my main gripe. Buying a G4 now is like buying an Athlon XP right now; not a bad CPU in its time, but it's already oudated.

And no, I don't care that they still use the G4 in Powerbooks, it's still outdated; I'm just wondering why they haven't managed to get the G5 in notebooks yet

Any fu cknut that read the spoof review and actually took a serious response to it is silly. It was written in a purely ironic style, if it had any more sarcasm, it would have flashing text across the screen in bright pink all caps saying SARCASM.

It's to bad Apple can't really make a competitive-price-wise set up for non-power useres.

I get so many calls from family and friends that have computers that are totally hosed

by spyware and virus problems. With an Apple they wouldn't be calling me with their tales of woe...

they probably could have knocked $50 off with a standard hard drive and a standard cdrom, but i don't think that low cost is everything they were going for

well, the thing is, to get any decent specs on the mini (purchasing directly from apple), you will find yourself nearing 1k
i could build a pc, everything included, for less than that and with better parts. great idea, i think it will sell. but for me, no way i'd ever buy an apple.

here's what i cooked up on apple.com for a mini

1x 512mb DDR ram
1x 4x dvdrw/cdrw
1x wireless card
1x wired keyboard mouse

total: $911. for that, you can buy a complete shuttle system that is slightly larger, and you get: better vid card, faster cpu, a monitor, and a helluva lot more

You are comparing OEM to custom built. Go configure a Dell with those upgrades and see how muchthe price jumps. This is why the hot deals from Dell are almost exclusively stripped down, basic systems.

Sorry to rant, but it's a POS and almost every person out there who doesn't know a thing about computers is wanting one!

I just love it when morons start talking. It is pretty much a Powerbook except put in a little box.
