Lost in all the iOS 8 hooplah today was the release of 10.9.5 Mavericks.

It includes SMB networking fixes and it includes a Safari security update, among other things.

Already installed on my 2010 Core i7 iMac. Running fine. Build 13F34.

Yeah, this should be the last one till Yosemite... can't wait for it. I refrained from trying it early this time.

I'm thinking there will still be another release of Mavericks, although there's no guarantee it will actually come out before Yosemite is out.

So, probably 10.9.6 will be the last version, probably with an updated version of Safari, numbered 7.1, and will match the 8.0 in Yosemite.

Just upgrade from 10.9.5 beta to this real version. Very stable, highly recommended.

I wonder if the SMB modifications mean less failures (which I didn't really have a problem with), or if the horrid speed and access times of working with SMB shares has been improved?

The last OS runs so poorly on my current mac mini I'm afraid to upgrade. I probably need a new mac.

FYI, Safari got updated to 7.1 this morning as a separate update.

Heh. So Safari 7.0.6 was out for all of one day.

Does 7.1 share the under the hood changes that Safari 8.0 has? Note also that 6.2 is supposed to be similar to 7.1 but that's not out yet.

What mini is yours?

It was the first unibody mac mini. It has a core2 duo and I think 8 gigs of ram (upgraded a few years back when ram was cheap).

It just runs like a total dog all the time. I even did a clean reinstall when the last OS update came out. I only use it for plex and even that is getting really sluggish.

I've got a MacBook Core 2 Duo as my main machine and it's tolerable.

I was just thinking about that, but last night I think the thing finally died. It hard froze and now it continues to hard freeze every 5 minutes after reboot. I thought about troubleshooting it, but I think I'm just going to replace it.

Memory problem?

If you have 2 GB of original RAM lying around, maybe put that back in and see what happens. Even if you have to replace, it's easier to sell a used one that works properly obviously.

With SSD though, that thing would be quite decent, if it didn't crash that is.
