Mac OS X vs. Windows XP

I have a friend that likes the new Mac OS so much that he'd probably die for it.

However, I prefer Windows. I was wondering if I could get opinions on these two operating systems.

Both of the UI are slow, however OSX is slower. OSX has built in apache web server, is built on unix (bsd, nextstep) core. XP is easy to use, more programs available. OSX is even easier to use less programs available but all of the big names are there Office v.X, IE, illustrator photoshop(soon) etc...

Both of them are better than the OS they replaces (Dos(9X) and OS9). Feature wise i think OSX is ahead.

Basically If you want compatability go with windows, if you want style/ease of use go with OSX.

i dunno if id die for any OS but i know that people, including myself tend to stick with what theyre familiar with because its hard to learn something new. i was primarily a windows user up until a year ago when i bought a powerbook. i love Mac OS X. in terms of pure aesthetics, OS X wins hands down imho. functionality-wise, i would not say one is better than the other. Mac has almost all the programs that Windows has...or it will have them once Adobe and Macromedia get their butts into gear. I still use my Windows box just as much as my Apple Laptop. I don't think there is a better OS hands down. I do know, however, that Mac addicts tend to be a lot more zealous about their OS of choice. for me, i just appreciate each one for the inidividual things.

Mac OS X required less downloading than Windows PICK_A_VERSION. I bought a Mac so I could have Mac OS X, but I wouldnt buy a PC just for Windows. But it comes down to what was mentioned before and what you need.

I admittadly don't like XP very much, 2K is alright, but I really prefer Linux. I also think XP's VM is unbalanced, it tends to favor file caching way too much.

Over all OS X kicks XP's ass, mainly because it's built on unix. You get a really nice mesh of MacOS ease of use and unix power, and you pretty much have every MacOS and unix app available (not all compile cleanly, but in time I'm sure they will) and frankly I find most Linux apps superior to their Windows counterparts.

I would by a TiBook if they weren't so damned expensive :/

i use both...

OS X is aiite,... but i can't stand 1-mouse button (i know you can plug in a usb with more, but i'm making an opinino on default settings) ... and it is kinda slow... the most annoying thing for me is the "finder" window, i much prefer windows explorer...

as for XP, i like it a lot more than 9x/ME for sure... the memory management is A LOT better and overall it just runs better, only thing that annoys me is the excessive gui "enhancements" and dumbed down user options...

i completely agree with you on those points. but in reality, Mac OS is probably the only OS nowadays that you can actually get away with using 1 button. its simple. even without CTRL-CLICK which is the same thing as a right click, youre able to function without it. you just gotta learn a few shortcut keys.

as far as FINDER vs WINDOWS EXPLORER, i think EXPLORER wins on that one. Apple did a better job with something similiar to explorer where you can traverse a filesystem in a left/right scrolling window, depending on how deep you go. OS X definitely needs to get spring-loaded folders.

I prefer finder. That third option in the finder style or whatever just rocks, especially with the previews
