slowness is the only thing if you dont have a fast enough machine. if you have any of the G4s, you should be fine. ive heard some complaints with the G3 iBooks but not everyone. i think its a beautiful OS and its well organized too.

Im going to have to agree. I have a 600 mhz ibook that is awfully slow inside of OSX. Im guessing the lack of ram is the problem though. Right now I only have 128 MB and top claims only 5 or 6 MB of physical memory are free. I will let you guys know how performance is after memory upgrade. Speed issues aside, its an excellent OS.

What finder? There's no finder in current Mac OSes.

Ah, I'm mistaken... I'm thinking about the old school finder that ran as an application. What they now call the finder is completely different. The menu bar for it is no different than the menu bar at the top of every window in Windows. It also contains the same function as the start menu (without storing app shortcuts there those are in the dock at the bottom). Personally, I like Apple's approach.

I have no problem at all with the menu bar placement on OS X/OS 9. I get annoyed by the separated toolbar placement on a few programs like Eudora (Screenshot) or Office v.X (Screenshot).

IMO, Mac OS X programs should have the toolbar embedded with the main program window, like Mail (Screenshot), Sherlock (Screenshot) or Internet Explorer (Screenshot).

the thing with mac os is the software never keeps individual documents enclosed in a software window. program like word can open up multiple documents. you dont wanna attach a menu to each one. its basically the same premise as in windows except that the individual documents arent enclosed in the WORD window itself. theyre free floating.

FOBSIDEDo you notice the single button on the top right side of the finder window? By clicking that you are actually hiding the toolbar on the current window, which I think is a very neat feature. Program like Word which has multiple window interface can place the toolbar on each document window, right?

I would like the secret x86 port of OS X Apple is reportedly maintaining, preferably with drivers/support for my hardware. I'd take it any day over windows if it had something like wine

I am a sure as I can be without having seen a working Mac OS X on x86 port that it does exist and is fairly current. Will lit ever see the light of day? God I hope not. If they *switch* to x86 they lose atleast one customer. Not to mention the fact Microsoft, and many of the other companies that develop software for them will give them all the crap they can handle.

Well, while it works Apple's idea of a WEP key is different than eveyrone elses and it's a pain to get a non-Apple client working with encryption.

Hmmm... Well, I have the reverse setup and it works fine. I have a Netgear ME102 access point with 40-bit encryption, and my iBook works fine with it.

Eeek! I have a 600 MHz iBook and it's pretty good (although IE 5.2 needs some work). However, I have 640 MB RAM in my iBook. 384 MB is enough for most things, but I do sometimes make use of more than 384.

It looks great, but the original release kepps switching to classic all the time, and it takes like forever on my G3 350 Imac.....
Slow, slow, and now it would not even boot........I am gettin a kernel panic error right when the OS X starts....
It is a step in the right direction, but OS 9 is more suitable for my Imac..

Very buggy in my experience, but pretty easy to use. Not terribly stable... I'm going to be installing 10.2 Jaguar today, so I'll see if they fixed these probelms.
