Hi. I risk putting this here, as this seems like a mac unfriendly place ( but so what.)
Knowledge is Good . If you wanna bash me, take a number, get in line, and start another thread.
This is another deal from Dell accessories. This deal is for who have a Mac with a Serial connector ( Beige Colored Macs; ie: pre- iMac & pre-candy-colored G3's and G4's ), and want to connect their Palm PDA or Psion or Diamond Mako.
Found a cheap Mini DIN 8 to DB9 adapter at Dell, for the price of:
** US$4.01 Delivered ** . It's normally only $4.45; and Dell is giving 10% off the price (-0.44) , AND Today I confirmed (purchased) that they are giving away free Standard/Economy shipping (normally $4.), even if you "Only" order this item. Dell doesn't charge sales tax in Most of the USA. I dont know how long this combination of deals will last, but I can't figure out a cheaper way to "try" to connect my PDA to my macs....
Its a 3Com Macintosh Serial Adapter. Older Macs come equipped with
Serial Ports : a Mini DIN 8 Serial Port ( Your "old style" Mac
Printer and modem connection). Your Palm/Psion Docking Station has a DB9
Connector. (or is it vice-versa? - I'm stoned...) And this cable
should be the perfect link between these two connectors. I figure this
would be cheaper than having to buy a MacConnect Kit: and it will give
me a chance to try out Trafic S5, (FrenchPsion freeware alternative to
MacConnect software) and to drag and drop some files/docs from my mac to
my mako, and then I can expand & install them once transferred.
(Will work on the Mac-Sync issue(s) after I master the mac/mako basics)
(The product description mention Palm, but applies equally to Psion, and maybe PC DB9 peripherals)
=======================================
*** Product Description *****
" The connection you need to link your Palm? handheld to your
Macintosh. The Macintosh serial adapter* is required to connect with a
HotSync® Cradle or a HotSync Cable through a standard Macintosh printer
or modem port. "
