Yeah I've seen their buyer guide, but we haven't had any evidence besides a pattern that they would be coming. We thought perhaps during the Ipad announcement but no dice. I'm hoping to see new MBPs when Nvidia launches Optimus on tuesday.

A Core i7 is a welcome surprise. I seriously thought they would stick with a i5 so that they could continue to use nVidia chipsets.

It makes me wonder about the 13" MBP. Could a lower clocked i5 be in the 13" with a GF9400 chipset but an i7 be in the 15" and 17"?

Can't wait to find out, honestly!

Maybe i will change my stuff to see if i cna start some rumors lol. Dont think i can change the processor and Processor ID though. Hope they come out with some 999 macbook updates. Core i5... was hoping for quad core pros but whatever to pricey for me anyways.

Then you aren't dumping Windows.

IF Apple were to up the res on the 15" they would probably go no higher than 1680*1050, otherwise there would be no need for the 17"

The Core i5 is basically inevitable, not sure if the next generation will have switchable graphics or not, and if they keep the low-end 15" then it won't be as cheap as $1500 and it won't have switchable graphics if the others do.

What you want almost certainly will not happen. If you need to put constraints on your switching (If Apple sold a $500 headless Mac with a Quad Core, 4 hard drive bays, a bluray drive, and upgradeable graphics then I would switch) then you aren't switching. Which is fine, 7 is a great OS, and I am sure somewhere out there are nice PC laptops.

Shouldnt be a problem. It seems apple usually uses the higher end chips. So higher end i7s in the higher pros and i5s in the lower pros and macbook. So macbook with i5 for 999 would be something i might look at.

However, there have already been deals on laptops with i5s for less than 700.

Obviously I am expecting to pay more than for a Windows PC. But I want a sleeker machine and try the apple OS. Right now I can get a Dell Studio 16 with a 1080 display, i5 540, 4GB RAM, 500GB HD, BT, lighted keyboard for just south of $1500. Nice machine and if my unicorn Apple doesn't appear that's likely what I'll go with. Problem is it's an oversized overweight beast, I want something slimmer.

you can something similar without the extras, though sometimes with, BT, lighted keyboard, lower end i5 for 600-700. There have been a ton already posted on slickdeals. By the time apple comes out with i5 prices will be even lower.

Also you might wanna do some research on dell studios, that have so many issues. My studio 1537 for example has a graphical corruption with the equipped ram. Many people had this problem well documented and we (the community) even solved the problem. However, dell would not fix it we had to buy the matching ram, well some people got dell to, most could not. All laptops have issues, including apple, just check up on those studios. I know they posted an updated bios for newer studios but not ours. (Just a bit over a year old...)
