Yes, there will be major price changes because Apple tells people on forums everything about their future business plans. Competetiton? Bleh, who cares if we let Dell and HP know what we're up to, they won't care.

Sorry for the sarcasm Honestly Apple is one of those companies that is very hard to discern where they're going next. I bought my MBP back in April and earlier this month they reduced the price. But one thing you can depend on is Apple not changing the specs much throughout the year. The MBP in it's current form should hold for a year or so but the price may change. If you absolutely don't need it right now, then just wait until the end of June or beginning of July to get one. I believe in August there's a developers conference, so there might be a product announcement then.

They just bumped up the CPU speeds a couple of weeks ago - now's as good a time to order as any!

The next revision isn't likely to arrive before you leave. When it happens, it will probably be a switch to Core 2 Duo processors sometime in the Fall.

I wouldn't expect Apple to stay so strict on the no changes (or slow changes) policy due to Apple using intel components. Certainly the form factor will stay true for at least the next 9 months, but incremental CPU, HDD, RAM bumps may occur. But I doubt any of that will be revolutionary. And I can't see Apple making any changes for a least a couple of months since they just bumped the specs with the MacBook intro.

Perhaps. That or they will wait until Santa Rosa in January and release all new MacBooks. Its going to be interesting seeing what effect Merom has on existing notebooks since its compatible with Napa...

too bad merom won't be out by fall. one can hope though! it would be great if they could push merom for the new school year.

and when is the real rev b coming out?

Isn't the Merom expected to be released in August? I could be wrong.

Just to let you guys know the new MB and MBP have a serious compatability issue with linksys, dlink and some netgear wireless routers. Apparently OSX does not handle the disconnect properly with the new atheros based cards that are on them and cause the routers to drop connectivity altogether. Only way to regain back connectivity is to reset them. It is all over the apple forums. As of right now pretty much all new v5 wrt54g linksys routers are incompatible. People have tried going to an airport express through them and they still drop them. According to apple this is a nonissue but the forums are flooded with info on this so dont think there will be a fix for it anytime soon.

About as long as it took Apple to ship core duo based macs? (I believe as soon or possibly sooner than the PC competition) The iMac shipped immediately, as did the core based mac minis. The macbook pro was delayed due to the obvious heat issues that they had, and likely their solution was the downclocking of the radeon in those laptops. The fact that merom is pin compatible with yonah says, for me at least, that this will be a very simple and swift transition.

Apple obviously can't ship the same cpu 3 months later and claim that they are doing a great thing, at least not with their pro line. This is why you'll see core 2 duo based macbook pros, possibly imacs, and Mac Pro tower computers in August at the Apple WWDC.

I wouldn't be surprised though if there was a delay in shipping due to demand for the macbook pro, but I wouldn't expect it to be into anything but the early part of september.

I suspect Apple will be shipping machines with the Merom CPU as soon they can get their hands on them.

As far as 802.11 compatibility, I haven't had any problems thus far with my MacBookPro in Mac OS X or in WinXP. My campus uses a variety of Cisco Aironet WAPs and at home I use a first generation Apple AirPort as well as a brand new WRT54g v5 that I bought less than a month ago.

The issue is only with MB and MBPs that have the new atheros chipset. The OSX drivers are very crappy. But strangely enough it works perfectly on XP with bootcamp. Go figure
