If you're willing to void the warranty, you could just get the MPB now + Ipod + Printer and cough up the $$$ for a Core 2 Duo once they go down in price after Santa Rosa comes out

apple solders in their core duo chips so it's technically not possible to drop in a c2d later. and even if you are able to desolder the old chip out and put in the c2d, apple would still have to release an update to enable the c2d. which they wouldn't.

I would strongly reccomend spending the extra bucks on a MacBook pro for school.

Why? OSX. Unlike windows, you can use OSX without an antivirus and anti-spyware program. Due to the highly proprietary AND secure nature of Mac's software, viruses and hacking attempts are slim to none. As an added bonus, OSX suffers much less from "OS rot"; a seven year old OS9 install will work just fine regardless of how much pr0n you look at.

In addition, I would not be surprised if Apple upgrades the graphics with the next revision. From what I recall, each new revision of the "Snow" iBook brought a new video card, as did most of the TiBooks.

I'm waiting for C2D laptops as well. This will be my last computer upgrade for a while so I'm going to need to make it count. My wife's Core Duo laptop is nice, but it doesn't compare to my desktop X2.
