Someone want to explain this to me why this is happening? We image a machine right after add it to the domain and install all the software. Sometime we have to restore the machines from the image using Ghost. If we don't disjoin the computer from the domain before reimaging the system, the system will boot up and says that it cannot locate the domain controller. It will work again if we disjoin the machine, change the name and rejoin it to the domain again. Any ideas?

Something to do with computer accounts already in AD? Try deleting the computer account first before restoring.

But why would it not work since it's the same machine with the same OS installation on it before and after restoring.

That is strange. I do the exact same thing and mine can rejoin every time. Are you using Network ID to rejoin the AD domain? That is what I use.

i'm not sure - but are you ghosting exact hdd's? are you using a tool like ghostwalker to change the SSID? like i said - it may not be it, but may also be worth a try...

Just like RhythmAddict had said. I believe it has something to do with SID. Not 100% sure myself

Are you sysprepping the machine immediately before imaging? If not, that's your problem unless you're only ghosting from/to the exact same machine, every time.

The image I am restoring from belongs to the machine. So, I did not do any syspreping or anything on it. I basically used Ghost and imaged the OS partition and stored the image on the second HDD. No name changes have been made to the machine after the image was created or prior to restoring the image.

The only way for me to add the machine back to the domain is thru these steps:

1. Remove machine from domain.
2. Change machine name.
3. Rejoin the domain under the name machine name.

Does restoring OS from the Ghost image force Windows to create a different SSID?

It will only do that if you use sysprep on it. Have you joined it to the domain and then reghosted it to see if it works then?
