I still don't get Pete's latest play.
I thought it was pretty obvious
1) Everyone (for the most part) likes Bob
2) Bob is better at ass kissing than Pete could ever be
3) Bob is knowledgeable of Chevy and the Chevy guys like him
4) Pete has become marginalized this whole season and has become more of an outsider
5) Pete needs Bob if he wants to get anything accomplished
6) Bob can make Pete look good with minimal effort
7) The last time Pete tried to take down a "fake" (Don), he was obliterated. This time, he's using the knowledge for his personal gain without trying to take someone else down in flames (Bob).
8) Pete's final stab: I'm willing to look past all of your lies and won't rat you out if you stop hitting on me.
It's pretty clear [now] that Bob has been crushing on Pete all season long (although this analysis came after last weeks episode, but before this weeks episode):
He hangs around outside Petes office frequently. When questioned on it, he claims he loves the light. When we actually see his office, its tiny, dark and windowless, which tends to back up his excuse. He visits a whorehouse with Pete and stands outside in the hallway while Pete gets his rocks off. When the prostitute comes out, he offers to pay for Pete. There is no indication he had sex with any of the prostitutes. Its implied he waited there the whole time. He has happily gone to the store to get Pete toilet paper. He brings Pete up in conversation frequently (Doesnt Pete Campbell have a beach house?) and claims to be very interested in his well-being (Hes a very generous person and I think hes going through a rough time.). He constantly flatters Pete and speaks highly of him. He stays at the office later than most of the employees.
