and then continuing to buy it year after year is self-defeating and hypocritical.
Y'all could just not buy it... It's not all that difficult. I haven't bought a Madden game in... well, ever, I think. My buddy got me one for my birthday a few years back, but he played it way more than I did. Complaining about the business practices of EA with regards to the Madden license and then continuing to buy it year after year is self-defeating and hypocritical.
According to VGA Chartz numbers (yeah, I know), they are selling fewer and fewer each year:
Madden 2007-9.99=4.49(PS2)+1.77(360)+1.02(XB)+.83(PSP)+.62(GC)+.53(WII)+.50( PS3)+.21(DS)+.03(GBA)
Madden 2008-8.02=2.57(PS2)+2.34(360)+.94(PS3)+.86(WII)+.70(PSP)+.29(XB)+.25( DS)+.08(GC)
Madden 2009-7.77=2.47(360)+1.83(PS3)+1.49(PS2)+.81(WII)+.69(PSP)+.31(DS)+.18 (XB)
Madden 2010-7.39=2.77(360)+2.30(PS3)+.98(PS2)+.70(WII)+.64(PSP)
Madden 2011-6.35=2.59(360)+2.24(PS3)+.68(WII)+.50(PS2)+.34(PSP)
Madden 2012-4.64=2.30(360)+1.83(PS3)+.35(WII)+.17(PSP)
So they must be doing something wrong, right?
I must assume you are directing your post at me, obviously so, and as such I have to question your reasoning for this statement. Beyond that, if I did not purchase any EA games or games from devs/pubs that use codes, DRM, etc that I would be left with about 5% of the market to choose from.
Who says they keep buying it? I just see one post saying that....that's it.
You know, this is kind of a discussion forum, and discussing, complaining, debating, etc are kind of the name of the game on here. And if not here, where?
It's one thing to whine endlessly and still buy the game, but I don't see a ton of that going on here. Not being admitted to, anyway.
Pardon me, I just threw up in my mouth.
Wow, if those numbers are legit i'm stunned. I was under the impression their last few years have been record breaking. Is that 4.64 million for 2012? If that's all they sold I'm absolutely amazed.
I buy them a year or so after they come out so I get a new game every year just like the people that buy the newest versions. I just buy mine for $10 instead of $60. I refuse to pay $60 for a game that gets marginal changes and the possibility that it can actually be less fun than the previous year.
No Franchise mode and no NCAA imports....wow...EA strikes again.
You keep saying Sega. Sega sold off Visual Concepts to Take Two a month after EA signed its exclusivity agreement.i know what you mean, but its really up to the nfl to give them that exclusive license. someday they will lose it, and i have no doubt sega will come back with a fury and that salty taste left in everyones mouth from cookie cutter madden games will not be forgotten.
I had a fair amount of fun with NCAA 2012 last year so I may give Madden another go around this year. I'm not really sure if I want to as I firmly disagree with EA's online code practices and such but you really have no choice now that we live in a duopoly....or in this case a straight up monopoly.
It has a franchise mode (it is called CCM and can be played offline too). The thing they eliminated, though, is multiplayer offline franchises which sucks.
Edit: I spoke too soon. It appears there is an off season mode after the first season. Everything about the XP system makes sense except ....for the fact that by the time you progress a player by 1XP for an absorbed amount of XP, the player himself or every other player on the team will be retired. Madden, at least this round, became more of a football manager sim. It definitely takes away liberties we once had, by making it more of a challenge and adding more replay. I can see many people liking this system (besides the random advertisements and the inevitable unlocking xp points for more money), but for some of us who enjoyed making fantasy teams and having complete control over rosters are shit out of luck.

Madden so far seems much better balanced, with much more realistic outcomes, and just better football.
I'm 2-2 with my current franchise, trying to rebuild the Jacksonville Jaguars, and all the games have been fun.
