2 friends and I did the franchise draft. It was almost the same as 2002. You have to click on "view player" to see their height and weight (important for the big boys). Nothing much was different, that I saw.
Playing *is* different. Passing no longer requires an additional hit. For example you'd hit "action, action, reciever". Now it's just "action, reciever". I don't like this. Kicking is different too. Instead of an arc, you get an arrow that moves up at an angle and changes in length. I *really* don't like this. We all made some stupid kicks with it.
Franchise games must be played in order. I really, really don't like that. I hope there is a way to turn it off. The music sucks, it's more Tony Hawk than John Madden.
Game play is very smooth. They move the way they should. It's not just "defender touches the carrier, down they go". They have to try to tackle. It's very nice. There are modeled cheerleaders, and the crowd is animated. The AI is better, on the default difficulty, we all found it competative.
The fonts used in the game are italicized, and very sharp. They're nice too. It runs well at 1600x1200x32 on my system, which you can see below. Madden also shuts up more, which is very nice.
All in all, I like it.
Any specific questions?

It always seemed to me that I could pass for 500 yards every game and keep the computer to negative rushing yardage in 2002 on the default difficulty. Also the AI defender seemed to be easily fooled by juke moves in 2002. How do those things stack up in 2003?
Not a big problem since you can specify a directory of music for the game to play. However, I do agree that it sucks, especially that one song they use in the Gamecube commercials that's shown on t.v. every 15 minutes. The music sucks...
Mini-Camp mode is great. I love it. What I find frustrating though is the extra animations. There are defensive back drills where you have to swat balls. Unfortunately, the extra animations make the ball swatting a bit random at times, especially for the very deep targets because you never know if your DB will stick a hand up or jump in the air with both hands. Very frustrating.1. They added more animation to the gameplay so you have a wide variety of tackles, catches, and QB Throws.
...
5. Mini-Camp mode has been added and its fun as hell.

1) Does it work with Win XP Pro?
2) I noticed Madden 2002, no one ever gets hurt. Did they improve on this?
