Madden 25 Trade-In

So Best Buy's supposed to be running a deal next week, where you can trade in Madden 25 for $25, while also getting a $10 coupon towards the purchase of Madden 15. So, it basically means you get $35 in trade-in value for Madden 25, if you use the coupon for Madden 15 of course.

On top of that, if you pre-order the game at Best Buy, you get $10 in My Best Buy Rewards money. Oh, and if you have Gamers Club Unlocked, you get 20% off of Madden 15 and 10% extra (possibly) on Madden 25 meaning the new game would be $49 base, and the trade-in for the old game would be $27.50 (before the $10 coupon).

So, if anyone has the game on the new consoles, this is a great deal for upgrading. If you're on the older consoles, you get only $15 in trade-in, but you still get the coupon (not sure if you can trade a 360 copy of 25 for a Bone copy of 15 or a PS4 copy for a Bone copy or anything).

Even if you don't have Madden 25, but want to get in on this, you could play the price match game with Tiger Direct, where Madden 25 is currently $19.97 on the Bone. Best Buy will price match that in-store or over-the-phone (with in-store pickup an option).

So, what I'm likely to do (as my first EA retail purchase since 2008):

1. Buy Madden 25 for $20 at Best Buy.
2. Reserve Madden 15.
3. Trade in Madden 25 for $25 and a $10 coupon, or $35.
4. Use Gamers Club Unlocked to bring Madden 15 to $48.
5. Put $35 towards the $48 copy of Madden 15.
6. Leave with a new copy of Madden 15, having spent $33 ($20 on Madden 25, $13 on Madden 15), plus tax.
7. Get $10 in rewards certificates, making Madden 15's final investment $23, plus tax.

Save it for 2024 so you can trade in Madden 25 for Madden 25.

Correct. You get $25 for a trade-in with a copy of Madden 25 on the PS4/One. You get $15 for a copy from the PS3/360.

To me, it sounds like EA will be quicker to put Madden 15 in the "Vault" than we're expecting. It might be Best Buy's attempt to keep their stock moving.

Retailers wouldn't know. EA isn't going to advertise that to the world, nobody would buy it and just wait until they get it basically free.

Perhaps, but there's got to be a reasonable explanation as to why Best Buy would eat half the profit of the newest installment in one of the bigger gaming franchises around. Sure, sales figures are nice and all, but I think they'd rather sell 1,000 copies at $60 than 1,500 at $35. The sales numbers are made up, obviously, but I just mean that I don't see this increasing game sales by the 60% or so needed to make this financially superior to the normal sales model.

They make that up when people get into their store, plus it promotes their trade ins. Used sales are all profit. They probably want more used product too. My local stores don't have a whole lot of used games to choose from.

I almost wish I had traded in my Madden 25 for the Xbox One version now. That would have only cost me $10. Sadly, I can't buy the codes in store for the digital versions...

Not sure, it didn't say. I imagine their generic promos like this include all stores, but you should find out Sunday, when the ad rolls over.

I didn't get to take advantage of that either. At least I get a $10 promo with the BB deal.

Gamestop has started selling some digital game codes at their stores. There isn't much benefit over buying on xbl or psn unless you have credit or a gift card to use up.

Maybe other stores will start doing the same. I just hope that digital can start competing on price a bit better with physical copies because there is no reason a game should be $60 digital and $30 brand new if you buy the disk.

I don't trade them in 90% of the time anyway. I would much rather have digital versions, as swapping discs gets annoying. With that said, Fifa 15 Ultimate Edition seems to only be available on disc...

Already was forced to buy the Forza disc as well as the Fifa 15 disc for the special editions. =( So, that would add an extra disc to the mix.

Someone needs to get Microsoft and Sony to license them the rights to making an automated disc changer for consoles.
