I've heard him say dumb things before, but I swear to god he must be drunk right now.

The Eagles are kicking a field goal around their 10, and an offsides penalty is called on the Redskins. So Eagles get 5 yards and a first down, after they made their field goal.

Madden says, "I think in this situation, you take the ball on the 10 and take off the field goal points."

And he repeated it at least 3 times. I mean, isn't it completely obvious to the most dimwitted, blind monkey that they should take the ball and give up the field goal points? It's torture listening to this guy.

As weird as Madden may be, he's still better than that tool that keeps calling the Seahawks games on Fox. He sounds like he doesn't even care about the game and just talks. I have to deal with this f*ck the entire season. I hate Seattle.

I did not hear him say that, but you should only be listening to the "good points" these guy's make and filter out the rest. You know it works if I did not hear that comment and he said it 3 times. He was most likely commenting on the very good call by the Egals coach to kick in the first place after such a good drive and such a small amount of yards to the first. If you have not noticed, pulling defensive players over the line on field goals or any play's with less than 5 yards to the first has become quite common goal among many nfl teams. You guy's should really stop letting madden get to you though, there will be plenty more characters on TV that will get under your skin.

Not to defend Madden too much, but if you're halfway football-savvy and listen to almost ANY commentator, then all they're going to do is say the screamingly obvious anyway. Madden is hardly unique in that regard, he's just more colorful in his masteful grasp of the obvious. Those who usually try and second guess the coaches are usually egotistical morons who are there in the booth for a reason (i.e., they're real good at analyzing someone else, but not so sharp when it comes to calling the plays themselves.) Madden's just got a niche as a character commentator, kind of like Dick Vitale.

It depends. If it is a regular season game and one of the players on my fantasy team is pitching, I watch a lot of the game.

Most of the time, baseball is on as background noise when I am on the computers.

Now when it comes to the playoffs, I watch just about every inning my wife will let me. haha

I am not attacking him as a person. He was a great coach. He knew it was time to hang it up. He needs to realize the same thing about being in the booth. He has become a caricature of himself. He is all "BOOM!" and no substance. I understand that being a color commentator is not the easiest job in the world, but there are a LOT of people who do it better. He is almost as bad a Frank Gifford and Dan Deirdorf. I would take Dan Fouts or Boomer Esiason over him ANY day.

I think Madden is kinda funny how he states the obvious all the time. Him and Michaels make a great team, and Madden is a better commentator than anyone else in the biz.

I find boomer and Gifford to biased and extreme, I'm sure you would tire of them just as quickly as you did madden. I like hearing madden talk about "the good old days" and how the new age players stack up the the once great players. Just tonight he said "It's good to see some kid's out in the crowd" and Michaels said "They have school tomorrow though, it's kind of late for them to be out on a school night dont you think?" and madden mumbled "Aw naw monday night football, it's like a holliday, they dont have to go to school tomorrow" and Michaels chuckled. That's entertainment, the way madden talks sometimes is just hilarious. All Boomer and Gifford would say is "These guy's are getting walked all over!" and statments of that nature, who wants to hear them cap on a team all night? Not me, they can take their strong opinions to sports center.

I like Madden myself, I find him funny and he's great to have when the game is super boring.

I was watching another game and the announcer was so monotone during the entire game, he just droned on the entire game like he was sedated or something.
