maddog preditor 5.1 and 4.1 sound cards

Will not play sound for starcraft game.. I have tried the cards in two different computers both were running win 98. both had latest direct x. and both play sound for game with a sound blaster value, a generic and a even a sound blaster awe 64 gold card..

I down loaded the newest drivers from the maddog site. I called thier tech support and they asked me to reinstall and all that junk but when i take thier card out and reinstal one of my old ones the game sound is fine..

got any ideas that i havent tried.. one of the computers even is a new mobo and harddrive with fresh install..

I installed a predator 5.1 recently and i don't see that problem - however i am not playing starcraft. Only thing I can think is to make sure nothing is muted in the volume control (both windows and the mad dog mixer).

you probably already tried, but that's burned me before

also, if you have onboard sound make sure it is disabled in the bios.

the sound for things like opening and closing folders works .. and even a cd works.. if you have starcraft could you try it and let me know how it goes.

I think that card uses a C-media 8738 chip. If you want, you can try installing the C-media 9739/9739 drivers as mentioned by me on the 3D Sound Surge forums here. To install these drivers, you will need to do a .inf modification to get the drivers to recognise the 8738 . The instructions for modifing the .inf file are mentioned here.

Please note that this modification is NOT from C-media, so use at your own risk. It may or may not fix the problem in the game. Personally I find these drivers work much better then the "regular" C-media drivers...
