Made pipe hole too big, how do I shrink

So I used a tail pipe expander at my header inlet on my motorcycle to make it fit this aftermarket exhaust I got (don't ask why I had to do that lol). However the pipe was expanded about 2-3mm bigger than it should have. How do I shrink it a bit?

I used this tool to do the expanding:

I tried Googling but didn't know what to search for or whether such a tool would even exist. Any help would be awesome!!:thumbsup::thumbsup:

Could you not expand the exhaust pipe?

I could but I wanted to keep it "un-modded" if possible since I already screwed with the header portion. This way I could get rid of the exhaust in the future as an option still.

I'm unaware of a pipe shrinker, but that doesn't mean they don't exist. I don't know how you'd do that and maintain shape integrity.

yeah I didn't know what to search for either so was hoping someone here would know. I don't think I need that much shape/structure integrity here since its such minimal shrinking/expanding. plus the exhaust will fit over it and be held on by a very strong spring/hook rather than the clamp itself.

hmm that's pretty smart. that will be option B if option A (shrinking) is not viable.

Yeah, you've expanded the header pipe too much, so cut away some of the expanded portion and get something to go between the header and exhaust.


You've pretty much discovered the basis of why once one goes black, they cannot go back. Once that pipe hole gets stretched out, fitting a smaller pipe into it isn't going to work out. Either, you need to make that smaller pipe bigger, or you need some sort of intermediate (like a prosthetic) to compensate for the shortcoming.

I've never seen a stretched pipe hole go back after it's made all loose and floppy.

I'm going to have to agree with Rumpltzer. Once you expand the hole to a certain point there is no going back. Cutting it back may work but that depends on pipe length and how much you have to work with.
A go between pipe may work but that is just a short term solution.
