I haven't said it in this thread, so I'll say it. There is absolutely no reason that violence has entered our political debate. There's no excuse for it from the left or from the right. We should be able to disagree on political issues, to disagree even on fundamental principles without fearing a beating and gunshots or a bomb. I wish that President Trump would cool his rhetoric and i wish all good people could agree that violence has no place in our nations politics.
AVENTURA, Fla. -- The last known address of Cesar Sayoc, the man arrested for mailing pipe bombs to high-profile Democrats, is actually his mother’s condominium, a lawyer for Cesar Sayoc’s family said.
The FBI searched the condo outside of Miami on Friday, even though attorney Ron Lowy said Cesar has never lived there.
In fact, he’s spent the last several years living out of the van investigators hauled off as evidence after they arrested him, Lowy said.
“Cesar is a sick individual,” Lowy said, explaining that Sayoc has suffered from mental illness for years.
“He doesn't seem to recognize reality,” Lowy said. “He lives in a fantasy world.”
The van Lowy said Sayoc lived in was spattered with pro-Trump, anti-Democratic bumper stickers. Sayoc, who was reportedly working as a part-time DJ at the time of his arrest, has a long rap sheet, which includes charges of battery and grand theft.
Lowy represented him in 2002, when Sayoc was arrested for threatening to blow up an electric company.
"It was almost like a joke,” Lowy explained. “No one took him seriously, because it was said spontaneously while he was trying to get his electricity turned back on.”
Sayoc didn't shy away from expressing his political beliefs on social media. He posted tweets attacking the left and the media.
Voting records show Sayoc was a registered Republican, but he was not politically active until recently. Lowy said Sayoc’s mother is a Democrat who crossed paths with Debbie Wasserman Schultz, a recipient of one of the bombs.
His parents "are saddened by this and they are sorry to all the victims,” Lowy said.
Sayoc has also been a bodybuilder and a male stripper.
Lowy does not plan to represent him going forward.
