it's going to be like the card game, except everything will be on their servers. you buy "packs" and u can trade w/peoiple online. i remember playing this game YEARS ago. I quit because of all the CHEATING at tournaments. i might try the online version.

What do u think?

elFenix: I still use shivan dragons and forks. In oddessy (the latest set) they released a card called Mirari, Legendary Artifact. 5 colorless to play it, then 3 colorless whenever you want to fork something. It rules.

as for MTG: o , Im really not sure about it... mostly because it costs the same amount as actually buying boosters n' such. I'd rather have the actual cards... will I be playing though? probably

I think I am going to play it. I stopped back at Tempest because it was lame playing against a bunch of little kids with $$$ decks. Online sounds pretty good.

i got into magic a little over a year ago and had been playing up until late summer. a bunch of my friends and i all wasted a ton of money and play often. now none of us play and we all wish we wouldnt have burned so much money on pieces of paper.

if people cheat in real tournaments, they'll probably find a way to cheat online. Fun game, expensive though.

Magic the gathering Online is beta testing now and the accounts and software is free. It'll be expensive when it comes out of Beta, but it is cheap right now. I have an account, I just wish I had ore time to play these days.

I also play with offline. I won the weekly 1.5 tournament yesterday. We usually get 20 or so people every Sunday. I played a UGW "Super Grow" deck and went 3-0-1 in matches. I should have won the match I tied, I named the wrong card twice with Meddling mages.

Local stores might have the beta disk. I also know that it is available for download at a couple of other locations. If you find an earlier version it's OK as the program automatically updates. You also have to sign up for an account at the Wizards Online Store - goto Wizards, you should be able to find more info.

If you hunt around using google and/or IRC (newnet #mtgwacky) you should be able to find a download site for the software. WotC don't care how you get it. I DLed it a while ago and also was given a beta CD from my local store.

Make sure you get an account at the store. The software is pretty useless without an account. It'll also take an hour or so to DL the real program and all the art.

MTGnews has a good thread in the magic online forum that explains how to install the software. Here are the instructions:

1) Download the zip file from the german site.
2) Then, unzip it, using a program such as winzip. (http://www.winzip.com)
3) Unzip the .zip file inside the downloaded zip file into a new folder without any other Non-MTGOnline files.
4) Run Setup (note: Setup will download files from the WotC server. The last 10 percent of the download will take considerably longer because of the number of files downloaded)
5) Once they are downloaded, follow the instructions to install Magic Online
6) Once Magic Online is installed, move all of the contents of the .zip files into the magic online folder. Just the programs, not any specific folders.
7) If it prompts you to overwrite, DO NOT OVERWRITE ANY FILES.
8) Afterwards, delete the file (updated.lst)
9) Run Setup Again
10) It will update the program to the newest version (from 8.39 to 8.43)
11) Then, run "magic", "magic1", or "modo" to start MTGOnline. (note: magic and modo check for updates before running. magic1 does not.)
12) Now that Magic Online requires version .845, you will need to do an additional step. Open the "modo" file in the MTGOnline Folder where you have all of your programs. That will run the update program and it will download the necessary files.

The version is much higher than .843 now.

mods - ps - this is beta software and WotC has been allowing the downloads. they control the beta via releasing accounts and will be making the software free for download once it is completed. This isn't "warez". You'll have to pay per pack once the game goes out of beta.

Bah...people will find a way to hack this and get any cards they want. And if I can't use the many many many physical cards I already have, then screw it. I'm not buying all my cards all over again. No fing way. And what's this Malil or whatever? Legendary artifact that forks? Hmmmm....That might go nicely in my Legacy Weapon/Invasion Dragon deck....geh heh heh.

Mirari is its name... forking is definately its game... only problem is im not positive if you can infinately fork something if you have the mana... for example: I cast a Stone Rain (2R) and fork it with Mirari (3), can i fork the Stone Rain a second or third time?

Whenever you play an instant or sorcery spell, you may pay 3, if you do, put a copy of that spell onto the stack, you may choose new targets for that copy.
