Good for WS and Full Frame
My daughter and her boyfriend each just got the DVD at a Richmond, VA store for $9.97, no problem. Didn't think to ask her if they had the mousepad.

She said there were plenty on hand and lines were insignificant. This at around 10 AM EDT.

At my local crapusa they have plenty of the full version but none of the wide version this was at 9:25AM, they really suck, they didn't even have the mousepads, that is some BS. I am just going to pricematch it to bestbuy or kmart or something.

I'm afraid your reasoning escapes me.

CUSA is the ONLY place in the COUNTRY, AFAIK, that has ANY version of a popular DVD for this price, AND on its release date but they "really suck" because they don't have the specific version on hand you want...

Guess some folks are just difficult to please. :disgust:

Still looks like a helluva hot deal to me, and I don't even own a DVD player! (daughters do though.)

Correct me if I'm wrong, but the $9.97 is on the widescreen version, yes?

And if you think CUSA is the "only place in the country that has ANY version of a popular DVD for this price, AND on its release date", you must not have heard of the term "loss leader" or been around about 1.5 years ago when DVDs were regularly going for that much before stores realized loss leaders aren't as hot as the dotconomy made them out to be.

PS... "full screen" (Pan & Scan) sucks. Widescreen is the only way to see a DVD. If you don't know why, see this site.

I was just at CompUSA and they were sold out. I then went to CC down the street and got the "last pricematch". Apparently CC only PMs if the source still has them in stock.

This was in Grand Rapids, MI.

Best Buy will PM it if you bring it the weekly ad from CompUSA. I've done this two different times before.

Apparently they didn't have many on hand.

We made it to the Raleigh store around 11:30 this morning and they already had signs up out front "Harry Potter Out of Stock "

Just to spite them we hung around and used their air conditioning and didn't buy anything

Went to CompUSA right before it opened and there was a line of about 20 parents and their kids, I found out that they only had 2 or 3 widescreen copies (But many many full screen versions) so I ended up going to Circuit City and pricematching it there.

Went to the Framingham MA CompUSA at 9:05 this morning and all the widescreen copies were gone. They only had 18 copies of those. THere were plenty of the regular (4:3) versions left. Mousepads were gone too but they started substituting another Harry Potter pad (same price) for the one that ran out. The clerk said there were 50 people outside the store when they opened at 9 AM.

I got in shortly after 9am, since I was in the area. I think they had about 100 DVDs, but they said they got in only 6 widescreen versions (I got one of the 6). They had maybe 40 or so mouse pads.

People actually buy full screen DVDs? Why couldn't they just put WS on one side, and FS on the other like many other DVDs?

Movie is not that great anyway, OK, but sterile and predictable. The DVD screener rip has been out for 2 months and even my daughter has not watched it again since it came out.

The widescreen version in front of me is 2:32 (I assume the regular is the same length) and depending on how much extra stuff they put on it, it may simply have been too much for one DVD to hold both versions. If so, I'm glad they didn't force buyers to buy both disks pacakged together (cost more). As for full vs. wide screen... maybe their sales charts show not enough people have large enough TVs to want wide-screen ? Dunno.

went to Fountain Valley (Orange County, CA), CompUSA an hour after they opened, sold out. took the ad to frys (the one in fountain valley) to see if they would PM but didnt since they called the local CUSA stores to confirm instock. but i went ahead and bought the widescreen version for $14.99. had about 20 more copies that i could see when i was there an hour ago. i figured it wouldnt get any less than $15 any time soon so i just went ahead and bought it. i still have yet to see the movie myself but thats how it is for all DVDs i buy.

I got to the Pleasanton store just after they opened and there were already 50+ people in line just buying that DVD. I was able to get one of the COVETED full frame versions. I'll just exchange it in a few days for the widescreen version.

These movie companies suck! They know damn well that they could fit both Standard and Widescreen versions on one disc, but hey, why not make a profit and give people a choice to buy? What about all the hoopla at the beginning where DVDs would have all these bells and whistles on a disc. Now you're likely to get a standard edition upon initial release...then a special edition 3 months later...then an ULTIMATE edition 6 months later. What great marketing...and we all buy into it.
