$6 would be too much. Magna bikes (and department store bikes in general) are junk. Bet it falls apart and stops shifting within the first 10 hours of riding. And the brakes are worse than pathetic, they're dangerous.

a friend bought a pacific bike 75% off at target great deal , but the pedal arm fell off a month later while riding it. the bike was not junk.please lets not compare $900 bikes to $60 bikes..... however the bike assemblers are very sloppy and dont give a damn about quality control.dont buy a bike and just ride it ....carefully check , tighten, and adjust everything..........

i made the mistake of buying a huffy and suffered the same fate....riding along third ave and whooops there went the pedal arm. i picked it up and went home, planning on fixing it...went to 10 hardware stores, bike shops galore...couldn't find a single compatible nut. contacted huffy, they said they couldnt help cuz they couldnt tell which particular make the bike was (they actually build the same model in different ways (i.e. 5/8 nut instead of 2/3 etc) depending on the amount and type of supplies they have on hand at the manufacturing facility. so this rather nice-looking huffy vortex has sat idly in my shed for the past year, missing one pedal and there's not a damned thing i can do about it/

moral of the story: buy a good bike

I looked through the Walmart circular today and saw they had a Schwinn bike for $138.64. It's available online for $132.72 for both Men's and Women's, but Men's is OOS right now.

What do you guys think about this deal?
Men's
Women's

These bikes were 50% off at one of my local Targets, but 75% off (!) at another one. There were still two men's bikes left at the Tigard, OR (Washington Square) store when I left (although the employees may have taken them by now). I bought one women's and one men's bike for $34.98 each.

Yes, I can tell they are not the best quality, but for $35 I'll take a chance. My gf needed a bike anyway.

ETA: these bikes say "Oasis" on them, and they probably already have a clearance sticker on them, but there is a good chance the sticker price is wrong.

I dunno guys, I got a Huffy last year, I ride it every day to and from class and it's worked like a charm. For 1 C-bill or less it's good stuff.

So why not just order both size nuts and use the correct one? Beats having a useless bike in the shed.

I used a Magma bike for 2 years at school and it work flawlessly. Well worth the $80 I paid especially in a college town where bikes are stolen all the time, mine included.

If your looking for a quality bike, please make a trip to your local bike shop (LBS). There's no need to spend tons of money. You can get a entry level Trek or Raleigh for a few hundred bucks. Always ask for left over models from last year. The Trek 820 and the Raleigh M40 are good entry level bikes. Name brand bikes will be far better than department store bought, service is way better and they can adjust the bike to you. For online bike accessory deals check out www.nashbar.com and www.supergo.com. For reviews check out www.mtbr.com. ...don't forget to wear a helmet!

Thanks for the great help. I REALLY don't want to spend over $200...but I *MIGHT* have to. Do you have any other suggestions for someone who is trying to save allot of money and doesn't care about the bike being lightweight, aerodynamic, etc? Origionally I was thinknig of just getting a cheap one to try riding 10 miles a day (I might get real sore real quick, or I might stink when I get to work), and try it out, before blowing a couple of hundred bucks on a bike that I will use for th enext couple of months.

I understand your situation, I don't see why you coulnd't get something decent for under $200. My first bike, a Trek 800, was $200 and I loved it. I later sold that to a friend that abused it for a few years then he gave it to another friend, it's still being ridden today. I guess my point is that it's worth looking at a good bike. Some of the shops in my area have loaner or rental programs, you might want to look at shops in your area. You could also see if they have any used bikes...some people upgrade early and sell their barely used starter bike. Warranties and Service are a big issue with me, so I like going with the local shops. Most companies have lifetime warranties on their frames. Most shops also have some sort of maintenace package...like free tune-ups for as long as you own the bike. Oh yeah...if you start out with a crappy bike then you'll end up hating it and never ride again...that would suck! Email me if you have any specific questions.
