i made the mistake of buying a huffy and suffered the same fate....riding along third ave and whooops there went the pedal arm. i picked it up and went home, planning on fixing it...went to 10 hardware stores, bike shops galore...couldn't find a single compatible nut. contacted huffy, they said they couldnt help cuz they couldnt tell which particular make the bike was (they actually build the same model in different ways (i.e. 5/8 nut instead of 2/3 etc) depending on the amount and type of supplies they have on hand at the manufacturing facility. so this rather nice-looking huffy vortex has sat idly in my shed for the past year, missing one pedal and there's not a damned thing i can do about it/
moral of the story: buy a good bike

Thanks for the great help. I REALLY don't want to spend over $200...but I *MIGHT* have to. Do you have any other suggestions for someone who is trying to save allot of money and doesn't care about the bike being lightweight, aerodynamic, etc? Origionally I was thinknig of just getting a cheap one to try riding 10 miles a day (I might get real sore real quick, or I might stink when I get to work), and try it out, before blowing a couple of hundred bucks on a bike that I will use for th enext couple of months.
