Magnolia. what a movie.

just watched DVD.

wow it was good. one of the best sound (effects, mixes, stage, settings.. everything) i've ever heard.

Frogs falling from the sky was just so bizzarre. Honestly, I didn't "get" the movie at all.

magnolia was a seriously great movie. it makes me so sad though, but it's that kind of sad you get when something is so beautiful it overwhelms and you get all depressed by it.

Yeah Some people just can't take movies for what they are. Magnolia is a great movie. People take too much thinking into trying to say oh thats not possible and now the whole movie is messed up.

Its a biblical refernece..i forgot which but in the opening scene about the murder/suicide they show the same numbers over and over...the same numbers they show when they show the forecast. Thats the passage.

It refers to those who dont believe in him or speak against him( like I say i forget) shall have the plague of frogs raining on your borders.

I thought it was a great movie.

The message, to me, seemed to be one of learning respect. And, sometimes, it took some 'miraculous' occurrence to 'wake' someone.

I thought it was great to. PT Anderson makes some strange movies. I like punch drunk love and boogienights as well.

actually pt anderson said he wasnt aware of the bibical reference when he came up with the frogs. it was just something that freakishly occurs (kinda like the 3 examples at the beginning of the movie). i just took it as his attempt to try and shock the viewers into thinking about it & realizing that sometimes crap just happens....thats life...but it can connect people.

any other thoughts?

I love this film. PT Anderson can do no wrong in my book. If you liked Magnolia, PDL, and/or Boogie Nights, check out his first movie--"Hard Eight". It's hard to find in rental stores but it's worth owning!

Of course, Aimee Mann's superb soundtrack is central to the film--in fact, it may surprise you to know that PTA wrote the entire movie around a few songs that Aimee had already recorded.

My favorite scene is when all the characters sing "Wise Up". It's such a cool moment.

it seems abundantly clear he intended the reference. He uses the numbers 8 and 2 over and over and then even uses it in the forecast. Then has the frogs rain down. How he can get people to think otherwise is beyond me. I believe there is a sign in an audience scene showing the sign exodus 8:2 like you used to see at football games for john 3:16. Im not a religous person and dont know all the verses, but to me its obvious.

The raining frogs was the best part.

If they edited Magnolia down to 3 hours (including cutting out that scene where every character is singing along to Aimee Mann) it could've been even better.

actually i meant he didnt have it in mind when he first wanted to put it into the movie. heres an excerpt from an interview

Q: The film has obvious biblical overtones, and I noticed in at least a few scenes signs embossed with "Exodus 8:2."

A: Yeah, there's more than that. There's many, many more. I bet you could probably spot a hundred. Exodus 8:2 (describes) the plague of frogs in the Bible. The funny thing is, my reasons for using the plague of frogs aren't exactly biblical. I didn't even know it was in the Bible until after I wrote the script. The rain of frogs is something that really happens. Did you know that? It's a true thing.

You know, loading a movie with pseudo-subtle biblical references isn't anything amazing or deep. I didn't like the movie because I felt it was just boring. I don't like his style - I though Punch Drunk love was a piece of CRAP, and Boogie Nights was okay.
