Overall he's a clown who makes mediocre points that are often built on straw. He might make a decent point here and there, but as they say, a broken clock is right twice a day.
So...essentially like @s0me0neIsReTarDed, but more honest. Gotcha.
We're talking about the exact same time period. When he was on the Daily Show and when he split off to the Colbert Report. He "made fun" of the left the same way you do, which is why you found it funny. The rest of us found it funny because we knew he was punking you the whole time. All your arguments make perfect sense to you because you live in an alternate reality. A fake reality but it feels real to you. It makes you all super predictable as well, which is why he was able to make all the same arguments you guys would make before you would make them, so it seemed genuine to you.
No... Not really. But continue on with your cognitive dissonance if it suits your narrative. We by care about rafts when you can use your feelings instead?
Bahahahahahaha. You must have mirrors on every wall of your home.

Misrepresent everything and just pretend you are always correct and hold some false moral highground. Project your failings onto everyone else because you are a most insecure kind of shitbag. Try to make everyone else feel as worthless as you do in your subconscious.

Fucking clown, stomping your little feet with your fingers in your ears, much like an angry toddler. You can watch someone clowning on you, and believe that they're doing exactly the opposite.

Colbert was funniest when he was clowning the right by acting exactly like them.

Remember that O'Lielly interview, or when he sat in front of Congress, keeping in character the whole time?

Feelings? You mean like accusing someone of being corrupt then being unable to cite one example of corruption?

Shithead mirror meet shithead reflection. Thou art a jackass

The evidence never matters, you should know this from his posting history.

All that matters (to him) is his initial fake "gotcha" statement or claim, which almost never has any valid corroboration. He drops shitbombs of lies and then moves on, never bothering to validate his own statements.

It's why 98% of what he says is pure horseshit.

Nope. It was when he was least partisan and was actively shitting on anything and everything that deserved scrutiny via Colbert Report.

After that, it went to complete dog shit.

Jon Stewart left Daily show. It went to complete dog shit.

The list goes on and on and on and on.
The literal point of the Colbert Report was to mock right wing media. It was an explicitly partisan show from the very first episode.

I stopped watching Maher when I saw him on a segment say methamphetamine was just like diet pills and that you can be a high functioning meth user. Always hated his antivaxxer shit but the misinformation on meth made me realize he was a complete shit for brains.

Er, there were millions of high functioning meth users (was common in quite a few industries because it was available at convenience stores, and wasn't just truckers although it was definitely popular in that industry), and it was prevalent in diet pills as well.

I wrote something about how I remembered this article (but I got info wrong after rereading it) so this is more worth it:

Like every other fucking drug out there, people have a pretty shitty view of it based on moronic nonsensical abstinence only shit. Which I'm not advocating for drug use, but the anti-drug shit is very often very wrong, often in astoundingly stupid ways.

Which isn't to say Maher isn't a clown. He is. But not sure why you think there aren't tons of high functioning drug users of all types. If you knew the truth of how much shit people are on you'd probably lose your mind. Hell I know some people that are such ridiculous caffeine users that the amount of caffeine they use daily probably ends up with comparable effects to regular habitual users of cocaine or meth.

Never said there weren't high functioning drug users, I have friends who have used coke, heroin, and various psychedelics for decades who are respectable and successful people. Just never known anyone who had any success in life while maintaining a meth habit. All either fucked their lives up or went cold turkey and replaced it with tamer shit. So is the hype about meth completely screwing up your natural ability to produce dopamine while you're a consistent user a bunch of BS?

I guess it does somewhat depend on how one defines 'high functioning'

he use of methamphetamine, better known as crystal meth, was particularly prevalent: A pill form of the drug, Pervitin, was distributed by the millions to Wehrmacht troops before the successful invasion of France in 1940.

Apparently meth-heads function well enough to conquer France. Not sure if that counts though. (Is it a sufficent test of functioning?)

After Morell prescribed a bacteria-based medication that helped Hitler’s intestinal troubles, they began a devoted, mutually dependent relationship that would last for more than nine years. During this time, Morell’s notes show, the doctor injected Hitler almost daily with various drugs, including amphetamines, barbiturates and opiates.

And Adolf's functioning could perhaps be questioned.

I like Bill Maher even though he frequently annoys me. He’s for a free exchange of ideas and I appreciate that, even if a lot of his ideas are dumb.

Maher seems like a closet anti-vaxxer from what I remember, he would bring on anti-vaxxer people and do his 1-on-1 interviews with a couple of them. During the interviews weren't scrutiny but more of practically endorsing it and conversations to try and validate them to a certain extent.

Though in one of the articles I read it cited that it said he had taken the vaccine.

Personally I kinda have to call bullshit, at least this early into the vaccine. Either that or it was a false positive test...
"Closet?" He's always maintained that there is a link between vaccines and autism even though it has been scientifically debunked repeatedly and even the original research claiming that was retracted. He and Jennifer McCarthy are the first two people I think of when it comes to anti-vaxxers.

Free exchange of ideas is good. Free podium for lies and misinformation I think we can all agree now is dangerous.

Don't know anything about Bill Mahar. I think his show was on UK TV at one point, long ago, but I don't think I ever saw it. I remember reading he was a "libertarian", which made me dislike him, then I read libertarians denying he was a 'real' libertarian, which left me confused.

From the comments here he sounds a bit like the US version of Piers Morgan - just all-round annoying in a generic kind of way.

He is funny in the exact same way that conservatives are not. Humor requires at least a speck of truth. You couldn't find a speck of truth from conservatives even if you used an electron microscope. While he isn't nearly as bad as conservatives, some of his humor suffers from the same problem and the rest just isn't that funny even if the point is correct.

Not only does he provide it, he spouts misinformation himself.
Not really. His show is an opinion and discussion show where what he says is very clearly his own opinion that he never tries to promote as authoritative. If you can only have a discussion show when nothing the host says is wrong you can’t have a discussion show.

That is fine for topics where we don't already know what's best. Not fine for things like "are vaccines effective" or whatever. We need to stop tolerating lending legitimacy to bullshit.

That's a highly inaccurate characterization. Even though I don't agree with him, Maher's remarks were considerably more nuanced-

Slow performance artifact......
Legal pharmaceutical amphetamines were all over the place up until the early 70s. My mother was given a prescription for Dexedrine when she was complaining about being won out raising 3 boys with one one way. That brother was born in 1960. She really did not take them long because she couldn't get to sleep.
It was up or down. Remember "Mother's little helper" Rolling Stones song?

Nah, Maher's a moron. There's no nuance there. Look at your own damn link, where he plays the 'I'm just asking questions!!1!' card on vaccines, then also brings Dennis Prager on, because boosting far-right idiots is totes harmless.
