running that off your computer to a receiver? Or on what? I bought the analog cables and such but they were a pain so I didn't connect them at college...only if I feel like it

Here are the instructions for ripping. Google should get you the pluggins you need, pm me if you can't find them. BTW, I've actually started buying DVD-As now that they're rippable, I see no need to buy an overpriced player when I have a high end soundcard/dac setup. BTW2: REM's best of is pretty killer at 24/192.

Step 1. Setup
A. Make sure you have the necessary software
You will need:
-Windows 2000/XP/2003
-InterVideo WinDVD 5/6/7 (http://www.intervideo.com)
-PPCMRipper (No longer available from rarewares.org)
You may need:
-DVDARipper (No longer available from rarewares.org)
-DVDDecrypter (http://www.rarewares.org/others.html)
-DVD drive emulation software (DAEMON Tools http://www.daemon-tools.cc, Alcohol 120% http://www.alcohol-software.com/, etc.)
-DVDAExplorer (No longer available from rarewares.org)

B. If you have and Audigy 2 sound card, make sure "Creative DVD Audio Plugin for Audigy Series" is not installed. If it is installed, uninstall it otherwise PPCMRipper won't be able to capture the audio data.

C. In the WinDVD Setup>Sound>Audio Speaker Configuration, select a multi-channel configuration (4 channel, 6 channel, etc.) so that WinDVD doesn't downmix the output to stereo.

Step 2. Decrypt CPPM-protected Disc (If Necessary)
-Note: I have not tried this myself and can't confirm this is exactly how this works.
-If the file DVDAUDIO.MKB (media key block) exists in the AUDIO_TS directory on the DVD-A disc, then the disc is CPPM-protected. A CPPM-protected disc can only be captured as a stereo downmix by PPCMRipper unless it is decrypted first. If no .MKB file exists, skip this step.
-Read the readme.txt included in the DVDARipper zip for more details.

A. Decrypt the .AOB files in the AUDIO_TS folder on the DVD-A disc to a pre-existing folder on your harddisk by using DVDARipper using the command: "DVDARipper <DVD Drive>:\AUDIO_TS <Output Directory>". Running this command will open WinDVD. You may have to manually start playing the disc in WinDVD to get the ripping process to begin.
-Ex: "DVDARipper D:\AUDIO_TS C:\TEMP\AUDIO_TS"

B. Decrypt the .VOB files in the VIDEO_TS folder on the DVD-A disc using DVDDecrypter. (Instructions available elsewhere: http://www.dvd-software.info/dvd-guide/dvd-decrypter/)

C. Either burn the unencrypted AUDIO_TS and VIDEO_TS folders on a DVD as a new DVD-A disc or mount the directory pair as a virtual drive using your favorite drive emulation software (DAEMON Tools, for example) so that it is playable through WinDVD.

Step 3. Decrypt the PPCM (MLP) track data to multichannel .WAV files
-Read the readme.txt included in the PPCMRipper zip for more details.

A. Determine the sample rate of the audio on your DVD-A disc (usually 96kHz). The sample rate should appear while playing the disc in WinDVD on the floating controls window which has the play/pause/stop/etc. buttons. Alternately, you can use DVDAExplorer to view the properties, including sample rate, of each track on the disc.

B. Capture the DVD audio tracks to multi-channel .WAV files using the command: "PPCMRipper <Sample Rate> <Output Directory>". Running this command will open WinDVD.
-Ex: "PPCMRipper 96000 C:\TEMP\WAV_OUT"

C. In WinDVD, open your drive containing your DVD-A disc, select the first track, press play, and now wait for the entire disc to play all the way through. PPCMRipper will capture the raw output data as the tracks are played. It will create a new .WAV file for each audio track as they are encountered.

D. When the disc is done playing, exit WinDVD. All of the tracks are now captured as .WAV files in your output directory.
