This looks like a hot deal but I think you are going to see a lot of DLP sets going on sale as the industry shifts to an improved DLP implementation. I just read an article yesterday that Samsung and Akai are introducing new DLP systems that replace the the color wheel and incandescent light source with LED arrays.
Read about it here:
LED DLP Article.
To summarize, the new LED / DLP implementation has three major benefits:
1) Elimination of the color wheel which causes some viewers to sense what is called the "rainbow effect". Also, it is a moving part subject to wear & tear.
2) Significantly longer duty cycle. The LED's are conservatively rated at 20,000 hours viewing time. The incandescent bulbs were rated at 8,000 hours but field reports put it closer to 4,000 hours in actual use before replacement was necessary.
3) Significantly less heat
Both Akai and Samsung will use TI's new 1080P DLP chip. Most existing sets use the older 720X1280 DLP's. If this new technology really delivers the goods, then I think you are going to see a lot of fire sales as dealers try to clear their inventory of older DLP sets.
This is cool stuff!
