I deadlifted yesterday and my calluses are out of control. I had to put socks over my hands to finish dead lifting. I could have googled this, and I likely will, but figured I'd see what you guys do. Do you cut the calluses off? Do you use gloves for heavy, grip intense stuff like deadlifts? My hands were on fire during deadlifts last night.

I use this: https://www.amazon.com/Tweezerman-S...ie=UTF8&qid=1469805113&sr=8-8&keywords=callus to shave off calluses when they get too thick so that they don't rip during pull-ups. I also got a skin care kit that came with some balm and a pumice stone but I don't use that as much. I don't wear gloves for anything. My calluses are mostly on the palm of my hand just below where the fingers meet the palm. I have new ones on my thumbs from hook gripping during snatches. One of them ripped a little this morning and it stings when I wash my hands.

I have a pumice stone to just tone down the edges. A lot of people I know use a shaver to get down the bigger ones.

Looks like I'll have to shave them down, but not remove them and make sure to grip the bar correctly and just let them toughen up. That really burned like hell though, lol.

the only exercise i really have pain with them is during pullups. it's usually when they kind of "slide up" and get squished between the bar and my hand, above where they would be if they are just pressed flat into my hand. these are ones that are on the palm right where the fingers meet, and typically only where my middle finger is.

cut em off...

also, remember to lay the bar across the calluses. don't try to hold it deep in your hand which will cause the calluses to pinch between the bar and your fingers making things worse.

I cut them off with diagonal cutters (wire cutters).
The smaller precision versions work best.

I used a traditional razor for shaving. It worked really good to shave them down. I did deadlifts yesterday after shaving and it still hurt like an absolute SOB. I recently started going heavy again with pulling exercises because my elbow tendons had to heal, so my hands are just raw and need to toughen up I think. It does feel like they are on fire when pulling heavy loads. Crazy ass pain.

Methinks you need to roll your hand over the bar better so that you aren't bunching up and pinching a big skin fold at the base of your fingers.

Glycerin soap (IE walmart Dial Glycerin Bar Soap NOT-ANTIBACTERIAL --regular soap in the red, green, coconut variety) is good because glycerin alcohol is actually one of the bodies natural signaling molecules that instructs your skin to regenerate new skin cells.

Its generally not a man-thing to have healthy skin but it'll do what it do. Its also anti-cancer and all that good stuff instructing otherwise unhealthy cells to become skin cells and slough away.

Basically there is almost no reason not to be using it in some form or fashion.

Your hands won't be as tough so you'll have to balance that out. Use gloves or wrap the bar or something. There is no need to be so tough on your hands that you get calluses even if you work with your hands.

Hyaluronic acid supplement. I take it every day, usually keeps calluses from drying out from the big 3 at the gym as long as you have a couple of offdays where you don't miss a dose. Also helps your skin/hair stay softer than normal. Also has knee joint benefits which I don't really know if it helps since I take 3 other joint supps including fish oil. But it probably does. Last, I noticed I haven't had dry eyes since taking it - eyes used to burn when I took showers in the morning since I had Lasik.

I take the Now brand with the 100mg/L-Proline/ALA/GSE. They do have a cheaper one out with just H.A. and MSM, may try that instead since it's 5 bucks cheaper ($17).
