Major Problem with windows XP Pro.

According to this guy he put a floppy in his A-drive but it wouldn't read it so he tryied to get it out but it wouldn't come out. He then proceeded to pull it our with pliers. Ok onto the problem. When he starts the computer scandisk runs but when it finishes the computer resets and this becomes a loop. I've tried it with enter winodws and last known good config. Same results. Tried safe mode but it gets to a certain part and freezes without fail. I was gonna use the XP CD to repair it but I don't know how to use the recovery console. I don't think the floppy had anything to do with it but I don't have a clue what could have caused this or how to fix it.

Easy way to determine if the floppy is the problem: disconnect it.

ok I'll try that but how would I go about getting to DOS before getting to XP. No safe mode with cmd promt doesn't work

boot off the xp cd and choose recovery or r at the first options menu be sure to set your 1st boot device to cdrom in the bios first though

If you do get the recovery console up run chkdsk /F . If no errors were found then you might try fixboot /MBR. If that fails then image or backup C: then reformat and reinstall the OS. There's other things that could be tried but reinstalling the OS usually gets the system up and running the fastest.

Oops I forgot to post an update, we got all his old papers off the machine and just formated it.
