Hi new to these forums, no other forums were any help to me. I'm having some major issues setting up my crossfire system.

  • I bought an ECS PA1 MVP (2.0) mobo
    2 x 512mb OCZ PC5400
    2 x 128mb sapphire x1600pro's
    a pentium D 820
    a 550 watt rosewill PS

I already have a CD burner and a DVD rom, and 2 hd's a WD 40g and a Maxtor 160g

I know what I'm doing but all of this is new to me so putting it together and setting it up was actually fun again =P. so anyways to my problems...

when I had everything finally put together on the first boot I only put 1 of the graphics cards in, now this is what was weird for the first boot I put the card in slot 1 and just a filler card in the second slot. got excited turned it on... and nothing on the monitor... so I switched the 2 and apparently slot 2 is the primary slot...doesnt make sense but I figured ok well its working... booted up and paused to let me get into bios, went into bios and changed the pci-e to enable both slots. saved and rebooted. again nothing on the screen, tried both graphics cards... so i reset the bios with the jumper. took out the card in slot 1 and put the filler back in, turned it back on and went into bios and figured well ill just let it boot normally checked through all the settings in bios, saved and tried to boot. then I got the error NTLDR failed, so I figured ok I just have to reformat. rebooted changed cdrom to boot first put in my windows cd and let it boot, it paused for a second when it looked like it was reading the cd, a pressed space just to see if I had to press a key to get the cd to start doin its thing, it skipped to the hard drives and then got NTLDR failed... with it doing this it makes me think the hard drives are messed up, but I just had them working on my old setup. need major help and someone please tell me my hard drives arent messed up.

-Thanks.

I'm not sure but I thought you had to get a crossfire card for crossfire to work. you can't just use two of the same card. Try it with just one. I could be wrong tho.

the 1600 and 1300 series have the compositing engine that the crossfire edition cards have so you can use 2 of them and it works without the dms-59 cable.
