This deal has been going on for quite a while at Amazon but may have just gotten hotter. Sign up for a year of service with T-mobile and get the Motorola V66 and make $50 after two MIRs. Amazon says that you can get $100 with another rebate but I am not sure if this will work.
I have had the phone for about a week now and am loving it. It is quite small and light, but not too tiny like some other phones. The screen is black text on white (not white on black like Amazon shows), and is much more readable than your average LCD screen. The menu layout is about my only complaint. It is a bit confusing, but if you use all of the voice command features and shortcuts, then you don't really have to deal with the menus much. I haven't use the text messaging yet, so I can't comment on that. From what I can tell, this phone is pretty similar to its big brother the v60 but weighs quite a bit less and doesn't have external caller id (the weight savings is worth the tradeoff in my opinion). Battery life has been good so far.
T-mobile service here in Davis (near Sacramento) has been quite impressive. I previously had Verizon which would barely get a signal at my house. With T-mobile I routinely get between two and three bars of reception and have not had problems with dropped calls. I have talked to T-mobile customer service twice and the two people I talked to were very nice and helpful. (I did have to wait on hold for about 5-10 minutes on one of the calls though). My plan (1000 anytime/unlimited weekends) seems like a pretty good deal for $39.99. If you are in need of a cell phone, I would definitely look into this deal.
One last note, there are usually Amazon coupons floating around that you can use to sweeten the deal even more.

i talked to a rep for a variety of cellular provider and they said that t mobile uses the same towers as verizon. there should be no reason why you didn't get service with verizon. i'm assuming that you had a cheap phone for verizon and getting a name brand phone made all the difference.

VS and T-Mobile did merge together. However, VS/T had towers in NYC, but no towers in Cali. Cingular on the other hand, had towers in Cali, but no towers in NYC. So they struck a deal where VS/T would share Cingular's towers in Cali while Cingular shared VS/T's towers in NYC.

I Just got back from the Voicestream store, and this phone is really lame because you can't see who is calling without opening up the faceplate. Does'nt that defeat the whole PURPOSE of flip phones? Anyway there is another model, that is free after rebate that is much better. No you don't make any money, but hey I think it's worth it.

think you're talking about the v60g that's available for $250 minus $250 in rebates to make it free. i just ordered this phone yesterday and its supposed to be very good.

sorry for butting in but a few years back, none of the flip phones (startac etc) had external caller ID and no one was really complaining. Anyways I have had motorolas for the longest time anddo not have any complaints about them.

I have also used Voicestream since 1999 (then known as Omnipoint) because of their worldwide service and have hadno problems with them except in rural highways where GSM is simply non existent

They probably just wholesale with whoever's equipment is available. We don't have any Cingular towers around here (just Verizon) and we have TMobile available.
