She didn't get banned for a racist comment, she got banned for telling a LAME ass joke that was offensive towards a continent (not a race of people) I wish this was the normal because everyone wants to be a god damn comedian but 99.999% are completely fucking unfunny. Hopefully people will understand it wasn't a race thing here and leave the humor up to people who are actually funny.

Since this was the Greek team taking this action and unless I am missing something "us" as in the United States had nothing to do with it if anything it seems that, at least in the case of the Greeks, they are more PC than us.

Obviously enough people were offended by her broadcast that the committee felt the need to take drastic measures. Sucks to be her.

This not about just about racism. This is the Olympics. This is the only venue where most of the entire world comes together around athletics. There have been many incidents in the past with Olympic athletes and she is not the first. But they have tried to restrict athletes over the years from making gestures and comments that would be offensive to the other athletes. I am sure this was discussed with all the athletes and she should have known better. This was an inappropiate comment made at an inappropiate venue. There is a time and place for everything.

I feel bad for her, I really do, she may never get the chance to compete in the Olympics again. But she embarrassed herself, her country, and made a statement that ultimately became an embarrassment for the Olympic stage. She was wrong and unfortunately got a punishment that given the context of everything was appropiate.

Just like if a famous white male athlete in the U.S. were to make fried chicken and watermelon jokes. Outside of the U.S. most would say I don't get it doesn't sound racist to me. it's more socioeconomic tension than racial (although it might manifest itself as racial tension, I don't know for sure). basically all the mediterranean european countries are completely overrun by illegals from africa. considering these countries have run their economies into the ground it's not hard to figure out why there's tension.

As an Olympic athlete, selected to represent an entire nation, one should conduct him/herself in a manner becoming of a public official. Greece did the right thing by removing her from the team. Just add her to the list of disappointments appointed to Greek Olympic squads.

Perhaps Greece should take a look at it's own past and begin erecting statues of shame outside of the Olympic stadiums to remind athletes to stand for their nations and not themselves.

She wasn't selected to represent her nation, she competed and placed high enough to have earned a spot on the team by her athletic ability. She wasn't placed on the team based on her joke telling abilities nor her mastery of PC Twittering. She was on the team because she placed within the top X competitors competing for a spot in the triple jump track event.
