Yeah, cooking ghe #@%^! boba is a very long and arduous process. I have burnt 2 pots trying to cook the stuff correctly so that the middle part of the boba is soft. I tried a pressure cooker and that made the boba turned to more like a soft rubber sheet.

Hate to break this to you...but if you got any of the "flavored" bubble teas(ie honeydew, watermelon, coffee, etc), they were probably made with the powder. You simply can't get enough flavor out of fresh/frozen fruit.

Also, to cook the tapioca balls correctly, you want to boil them until they're about 80% done, put them in the rice cooker until they get barely sticky and then dump them in cold water. To store them, mix with sugar water to keep them from sticking together.

I love this stuff. I'm gonna give it a try. Might be kinda good. My favorite is almond flavored but too bad i didnt see it listed at the site.

Thx for the tips answerer. I'll be sure to try your methods out.

All of the bubble tea shops around here (Berkeley, CA) do it with fresh fruit, and it's really good. I guess it's just California fruits though,

Cupertino I think there are 4 locations...

- Fantasia (Wolf/Ranch 99)
- Q-Cup (Wolf/Ranch 99)
- ?Lollicup? (the one next to Longs on Stevens Creek)
- Tapioca Express (Stevens Creek/Marina Food)

Milpitas

- Fantasia (237/Milpitas Square)
- Tapioca Express (Dixon/Milpitas Blvd)
- Bliss Cafe (Dixon/Milpitas Blvd)

Those are all that I can think of now. Personally, I think Fantasia makes the best pearl teas.

cupertino village (wolfe st near I-280): fantasy cafe or some others scattered around there

milpitas square (237, exit mc-carthy, turn towards the maxtor office, then turn left): sweetheart cafe -- my friend likes to get "avocado lychee with extra lychee"..they say you can't find them elsewhere

basically they exist in a lot of other asian community area and some other places you can think of...
there are a lot of them in california... almost everywhere you go ... (well, kind of)

and don't forget to always ask for buy-10-get-1-free coupons

Braxus: U know Cupertino real well! There is a store in the Cupertino Village, it used to has an middle age asian (Taiwanese) woman to make boba tea right in front of u. She was the best. However, when I went there today with my friend, there has only 2 young female work there and the boba tea they made is the worst I have ever had. So beware. I don't know the English name of the shop but they mainly sell tea.

Yes i guess it depends what you choose.
I ONLY choose green tea(mostly), tea, or mungbean(green bean)...which are all
non-powdered where i buy...i seen tea leaves and actual mashed green beans in mine maybe others use powder i dunno...

Boba is the $hit! I'm all about the avocado with pearl. They have some good places here in Austin. Don't know if I trust my culinary skills enough to fork over $30 to try it myself though.

I admit, I'm just too lazy to brew my own bubble tea anyways...

$2.50 sounds fair enough anyways.
