making a dsl connection on asus a7n8x deluxe

i just installed the mobo, and xp, everything seems fine, i install the nvidia drivers and the 2 ethernet controllers become recognized.. one is nvidia mcp bridge adapter.. other is 3com bla bla..

thing is i have bell dsl, with pppoe username and password authentication, so when i try and setup this connection on either of the two ethernet cards.. only the always connected, no need to login option is available, the login pppoe which i need is grayed out no matter which one i try.

can someone please help me fix this problem so i can get my dsl up and running?

Which connection software are you using? Have you tried the default XP connection for pppoe? Only one nic should be bound to pppoe in the nic setting.

The default xp connection is what im trying to use, but everytime i try to set it up. it keeps thinking i have a cable line where i dont need a login and password. The pppoe connection is grayed out, i really need to fix this problem..Any suggestions

When using the connection wizard to create a new Internet connection, try the other options besides an 'always-on connection like broadband' or whatever description they give you...


I have a USB DSL modem and I think its PPPoA even though im not sure of the difference...but the always-on setting in conn. wiz. doesnt work for sure..


I think that to create the proper connection for my modem, I chose that it was just dial-up internet, then the phone number gets set as "*35" or "35" and then I have my u/n and p/w set in, and I have it so it doesnt prompt for a number or login info, and it just hops right on!
