Making a JPEG from a Zoomable SWF

Not sure where to ask this, and couldn't find much via Google.

Would it be possible to get a JPEG from this: http://www.lib.uchicago.edu/e/su/maps/chisoc/G4104-C6E625-1926-T5.html

In any way besides print screen? Checked source but there's nothing there...In the parent directory I found about a millions teeny blocks of the map which would probably take a year to reassemble. Haven't found any versions of it on the web or available to purchase, either.

Would like to get a decent sized image of it.

You can zoom in yourself and do print screen and reassemble, there should be a way to recode the SWF functions to build a single image...you just need to find out how they build the matrix.

You could just take a bunch of screen shots and then stitch them together in Photoshop.

:awe: I'd considered saving every image and using a panoramic stitching program to join them. Then I remembered what it was like doing a puzzle when I was a kid, and getting to the plain blue sky portion... PM'd back. Thanks so much for that.

Alright, the procedure I used:
I saved the page locally, then edited its HTML code. There are some sections in the HTML that give the Flash thing its parameters, including the size of the displayed window. There are also some parts that change the size of the frame or section it's in. Just changing the Flashvars portion results in a much larger Flash box, but not all of it is visible.

I changed it to something like 4000x4000, from its defaults of 600x420.

Then to grab an image of the entire page, I used a Firefox add-on, Pearl Crescent.


So it's not technically an image extraction, it's just a convoluted way of grabbing a big screenshot.
I'll be able to work on it a bit more this evening; the first attempt resulted in somewhat poorer image quality than I'd like.



Update: Had another go at it.
I edited the HTML again to boost the Flash window size to 8000x8000, and proceeded to load the page.

Wow.

I didn't know Firefox could use that much RAM without crashing.
It took about a minute and a half to finish rendering the entire thing. Then when I told the Pearl Crescent plugin to create a screencap of the entire page, Firefox.exe + plugin container.exe jumped to somewhere around 3.3GB of RAM.

It is currently a 73MB PNG file, 5214 x 7559 pixels. I'll work on cutting it down a bit.
