Making A Move

I am horribly embarrassed to be posting this...

So to help set this up I will give a little background.

I just got out a pretty serious relationship of about three years with my HS GF. We were together my freshman year of college, towards the end I told her that I wanted to experience things and I called it off. What I'm trying to say that I never really got to learn the ins and outs of picking up on girls.

I went to the movies last night with another friend and two girls, I happen to like one of the girls, my buddy tells me that I need to make a move. But I hardly know this girl, what does he mean "make a move?" Does he want me to hold her hand? Put my arm around her? I just sort of feel weird doing this since I barely know her.

EDIT: I'm in a bit of a tight spot, I work all week from about 5pm to 11pm, prohibiting me from having dinner or things like that. Should I call her? Or should I talk to my friend and set up another movie thing so I can get to know her a little better then call her and set up a private date?

Any help from ATOT?

This was my idea, but my buddy was giving me a hard time about this way. I hardly know her, only been around her twice including last night.

What other way is there? I suppose you could just show up at her work or home but that would likely get you arrested as a stalker.

Your buddy is telling you what he would do, if he were you. Do what feels right to you, and don't let him push you into something that makes you feel too uncomfortable.

Your buddy is telling you what he would do, if he were you. Do what feels right to you, and don't let him push you into something that makes you feel too uncomfortable.

In all fairness what seems to work for him seems to work because he has no trouble picking up girls. But you're right, I just don't feel comfortable reaching out and grabbing her hand, that seems like something from high school. I might give whoozyerdaddy's suggestion a try, get her number from my friend and call her up.

If anyone has any other suggestions (including date ideas) I'd love to hear them

Your friend obviously doesn't know how real life works. Just call her.

That implies that he picks up a LOT of girls. Is that what you want for yourself? If it is, then by all means, copy him all you want. If it's not, then do it your way. Anything else is fake, and she'll figure it out pretty quickly.

'making a move' would generally mean (imo) letting the girl know you like her. Asking for her # is the most obvious... grabbing her hand, well, that's a little forward unless she already knows you like her and she likes you. Otherwise it might creep her out. You may be a little more subtle first, to see if she does like you... like touch her on the hand or arm while you're talking to her, seat next to her and see how she reacts, etc.

Get her # from your friend if you can... but i don't know what the big deal is WHEN to call her. Just call her whenever you can... if she's expecting your call, don't make her wait. And the date doesn't have to be formal, lunch dates are usually my preference... that way if things goes good, you can schedule an evening date... and if it goes really really good, you can spend the afternoon together and maybe even have daytime sex. If it goes bad, well, you can end it early with just lunch and say you have appointments/commitments.

Thanks, I think I would have to do a lunch date because of my work schedule also. I know I don't want to take her to the movies since thats where we were just last night.
