Making a website...who to register the domain name and where to get server space

Use www.namecheap.com to register your domain.

Speak to RossMAN about hosting, or check webhostingtalk.com for offers on good hosting deals etc.

If it's only a small site that you want to host, I'm sure there are plenty of people, including myself who would be happy to hook you up with some space and an FTP account.

If you're looking for your own hosting, depending on what you need you should really consider AgaBoogaBoo, or DeviousTraps hosting companies

Rossman recommended me to namecheap.com so i can transfer my domain, which i'm still in that process and he also recommended the two following web hosts.

I think i will use Sonataweb

I've been hosted with them about a year with no troubles. Excellent service

hmmm....the site will have a lot of downloads from it, but will be used by only around 30 people, more or less.

You need to figure out how much bandwidth you will need per month, bandwidth isn't free

Namecheap are overall cheaper, even though it's not by much they're still cheaper, and they have a free subscription to WHOIS guard per domain ordered now, which is extremely handy.

I also prefer their control panel, oh and they accept paypal, which I hear GD does too now, but overall namecheap is the best imo.

Ok, I got my domain name registered with NameCheap.com...I think I'm going to go with Telnap, I just need to talk with the other guys in my class to see if they are cool with helping fund it. Thanks everyone for the help.
