Making sure BIOS pick stand-alone GPU over on-board integrated graphics output?

I recently built a HTPC, it has Gigabyte GA-880GA-UD3H board with Socket AM3, running Athlon II X4. This board comes with AMD 880G integrated graphics chip using HD4250. The integrated graphics has been working fine.

Now I just got a free stand-alone GPU card to play with, a Radeon HD5450 with PCI-E slot. It's not that much better than on-board, but it is somewhat better. So I put it in, and went into BIOS to make sure that system on boot will always go to PCI-E card before going to integrated chip. In Gigabyte BIOS, there is a selection for "Initial Display" and there are 4 choices: PCI, OnChipVGA, PEG, and PEG1.

I changed selection to PEG, since that's for PCI-Express, and everything seems to work fine. Even if I change it to Onboard, it'll still go to PCI-Express card since the system probably thinks its better. I rebooted a few times to make sure things work, and everything is great.

The problem I found this morning is that on a cold boot (I cut off power entirely to the PSU over night), then the system would boot to on-board graphics first. I know this because I get nothing from the HD5450's DVI output, while if I connected to onboard's DVI port, it'll will have display like normal.

The thing is that when I restart using reset button, the next time it starts the display it will go to the HD5450's DVI port. And this setting would stay as long as the power to PSU is on. This works even if the computer is off. But once I cut the power to PSU, the setting is lost again, and it'll go to onboard on the first boot. I even tried the other setttings, PCI, OnChipVGA, and PEG1, but the result is the same.

Does anyone have a solution to this? I haven't had integrated graphics onboard before so never thought of this. I thought BIOS would retain the setting, and in fact it does, since the selection is on PEG, but on cold boot, it would default to onboard first.

In bios > IGX configuration > Internal graphics mode > Disabled

Disables the onboard graphics controller

Thanks for the tip, yes, I tried that IGX config and disabled the internal Graphics mode (I guess I forgot to mention that above, it was the first thing I did).

But it still goes to integrated graphics first on cold boot. But the next time around, it goes to PCI-E GPU. And when I go look at BIOS, the settings are still fine, ie. the integrated GPU is disabled.

I don't know what's wrong with it. Could it be that initial cold boot, the system couldn't detect the PCI-E card?
