A corded saw can provide far more power and make deeper cuts. If you have electricity in your garage, you would probably be better off with a corded saw. If you don?t have easy access to an outlet, the battery powered tool is the way to go.

Let me say that I am not a tool expert, but I have been buying and comparing power tools for over 25 years now. This is my opinion, the Porter-Cable is a better saw and had I seen that, I would have gotten that one over the Makita. The Saw Boss is also highly revered in the trade. Don?t get me wrong, the Makita is a good saw, but of the two, I would recommend the PC.

Its just like computers,if you are picky in what you want in that next motherboard,youll find that you probably want to combine features/specs of two or more boards to make one.Instead you have to settle for the one that suits you best.Like Don said with corded tools youll get more power and a bit more speed typically.But you also have to deal with the cords.Sometimes thats a pain...

IMHO , the very best cordless circular saw is the Milwaukee 6310-22 , I own 2 of them . The best current deal on a corded heavy duty circular saw has to be the new Makita 5277NBX hypoid/worm drive saw which can be found for about $150.00 , it also comes with a toolbelt that would make Tim The Toolman Taylor proud !

I couldn?t agree more about the convenience of not having to deal with a cord, that?s why I bought this saw. But for the people who will rarely use this saw, having the batteries discharged when you want to use it could be a problem. I already have half a dozen corded circular saws including this one 314P but since it won?t cut 2bys, I bought the Makita. BTW, the one cordless tool *everyone* should own is a cordless drill.
