Malaysia Airlines plane crashes in South China Sea with 239 people aboard

A Malaysia Airlines flight carrying 227 passengers and 12 crew went missing over the South China Sea on Saturday, presumed crashed

VANISHED AFTER REACHING 35,000 FEET

Flight MH370, operating a Boeing 777-200ER aircraft, last had contact with air traffic controllers 120 nautical miles off the east coast of the Malaysian town of Kota Bharu

Flight tracking website flightaware.com showed the plane flew northeast over Malaysia after takeoff and climbed to an altitude of 35,000 feet. The flight vanished from the website's tracking records a minute later while it was still climbing.

Malaysia Airlines said people from 14 nationalities were among the 227 passengers, including at least 152 Chinese, 38 Malaysians, 12 Indonesians, six Australians and three Americans. It also said a Chinese infant and an American infant were aboard.

Prayers to all souls and family and friends

Must have been catastrophic structural failure.

Update:

Took them 2 weeks but they finally came to same conclusion I did the day it happened, another Payne Stewart situation.

There was a hull breach at 35K and they all froze to death.

It vanished while climbing? That must have been something nasty.

The government of Vietnam is saying it went down off their coast. Interestingly enough, that's also where the Spratley Islands are located.....a highly contested chain of islands, claimed by Vietnam, China and the Philippines.

Makes you wonder.... :hmm:

Some reports are saying that two people on board had stolen passports. 777's just don't go down with out any warning.

That seems very suspicious to me.

I'm reading that they may have located the transponder signal from the Flight Data Recorder.

No problem or SOS call prior to disappearing from radar is quite suspicious to say the very least. Unless there was a hydraulic issue that caused the plane to suddenly dive one would think they could make an emergency landing in Vietnam for most issues including loss of engines. I hope they can find the black boxes so the cause can be determined.

I've flown to/from and through Kuala Lumpur many times and post 9/11 their airport security was tight possibly tighter than the US

It's doubly odd that there was no distress signal prior to the crash. It suggests that there was either a sudden explosion or the cockpit crew was incapacitated for another reason. The weather was also very clear and the flight crew was highly experienced. Still too soon to draw any conclusions, but this is a weird situation.

Yeah, several weird things here.

In all cases I can remember where a plane exploded or crashed into the sea/ocean there has always been floating debris. But apparently they can't find any.

Since the passports stolen were Austrian and Italian I'm guessing they're reviewing security tapes and looking for two non-Asian looking men.

Many ideologies transcend race and ethnicity. Your suspicions may pan out, but should in no way be relied on.

I found the whole thing about the two stolen/repurposed passports to be very weird. I would think that, in this day and age, such a thing would get caught. Or is there some way that a master forger(tm) can work around this?

Did you study geography in school? :whiste:

The place where the plane went missing is Southwest of Vietnam = http://news.yahoo.com/vietnam-says-may-found-missing-jets-door-161951222.html

Spratly (NOT Spratley) Islands is Southeast of Vietnam = http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Spratly_Islands

Not even close.

There is some conjecture that the plane made a 180ish degree turn to go back to Malaysia. If it did so to the east, it could place it in that vicinity. Couple that with currents and that could be why they haven't found (confirmed) wreckage.

See my edit with links. Even the plane went back, it would not even come close to Spratly unless it flied for hours.

The plane went down between Vietnam and Malaysia, Spratly is between Vietnam and Philippines. The distance between them is about 600 miles (estimate from Google map) or more.

You are right, 600 miles is too much for a more or less regular turn around. That assumes it was under control by the regular pilots of course.

Unfortunately there is as of now no confirmation of any sign of the plane.
