Didn't we know that about a week into the original story when it happened? I remember something about an elaborate flight sim he had set up in his house and issues with his marriage being reported contemporaneously with the disappearance.

*I think* the elaborate simulator ended up being a high end PC with some sticks and a flight sim from steam.

Search for missing MH370 plane ends but mystery remains

It still boggles my mind that we can lose something as large & as technically-advanced as an airliner in this day & age.

And dang, $155 million spent on the search & they still didn't find it. Technology may have made the world a small place in the virtual sphere, but IRL, it's still pretty dang big...

I hope the family who lost loved ones can find some sort of closure

Bezos will find it
Actually, he won't. Bezos did recover the Apollo 11 1st stage but NASA had a pretty good idea of where it impacted the ocean to start with. Plus the Atlantic in that area is flat vs the southern Indian ocean which is strewn with rugged mountains.

Experts on some 20/20-like show recently stated that finding it will not be beneficial in any way at this point regardless.

oops, got one billionaire confused for another, I meant Paul Allen will find it.

So, it's been 10 years since this. Mentour Pilot made a video on it, worth watching.

One of the things I love about the Internet is that they give a platform for people to create incredible deep-dive videos like this. Thanks for sharing!

Still absolutely insane that we have no publicly-available information about what happened. Modern times & a plane with hundreds of people just magically disappears. It's like something out of Lost!

Scientist Claims to Have Solved Flight MH370 Mystery: 'Perfect Hiding Place'

"This work changes the narrative of MH370's disappearance," wrote scientist Vincent Lyne, in a post about his research into the aviation mystery.

"The scientist's theory centers on a 20,000-foot-deep "hole" in the Broken Ridge, an oceanic plateau in the south-eastern Indian Ocean. He argues that the aircraft, which disappeared on March 8, 2014, was deliberately flown into this remote and rugged underwater terrain by its pilot, Zaharie Ahmad Shah. According to Lyne, this site's challenging underwater landscape, characterized by steep ridges and deep ravines, provided the "perfect 'hiding' place" for the aircraft."

""This work changes the narrative of MH370's disappearance," Lyne stated, asserting that the plane's final moments were not the result of a fuel-starved crash, but rather a calculated, controlled ditching. He further claimed that the aircraft's location is pinpointed by the intersection of the longitude of Penang Airport with a flight path from the pilot's home simulator—a route previously dismissed by the FBI and other investigators as "irrelevant," Lyne said."

deliberately flown into a difficult underwater ridge that is hidden from most radar and surface scans? And this dude invokes Sullenberger deliberately ditching his plane in the Hudson, an easily visible and approachable landing sight on the surface as an explanation for what this pilot did?

sounds...unreasonable to me. Maybe the trench is a lot longer than I imagine and there are miles in all directions to aim the plane, but this just sounds nuts. Plus, why the intentional ditching and need to hide the plane? Kind of need to work that intent out before going into this kind of speculation, I think.

At least we know that this is one forum god damn it, that never throws anything out, well, not counting spammers.

You know with all of the attempted spamming that probably goes on here in the "background," it might be fun to have a daily or weekly or . . . spam thread. Just get rid of the links - something that can probably be automated w/o much effort.

Also, turn off comments. Depending on how much spam volume we get here you could instead, just periodically delete the thread - as in 'nuke from orbit.'
