I think the captain hijacked the aircraft at this point. He just broke up with his wife a few days before and a buddy of his said he should not have flown.

Why do these nut cases have to take out scores of innocent people with them? Wife left you? Boo-hoo. NO need to kill others with you.

I think people would be shocked to know just how much incompetence is to blame, especially people who are conspiracy theorists. Like 99% of the time it's incompetence, the rest of the time it's a conspiracy. Or aliens

The aliens WANT us to believe it's incompetence.

Has anyone been able to make sense of the "raw" satellite doppler data that has been released to the press?

Link

There's a chart of the doppler shift frequencies, given which apparently confirms the Southern path.

I've had a go at trying to interpret it, but it makes no sense to me. Not least is the fact, that when the plane was seen flying due West, directly towards the satellite, it shows a high positive shift, exactly the same as at the end of the flight, when it should have been flying directly away. I would expect these two events to have opposite signs.

There are other issues - the divergence between south and north paths doesn't follow what would be expected from publicly available orbital data (inclination and RAAN), and the doppler shifts are much smaller than would be expected for an L-band system (possibly something is being corrected for, but I've no idea what that would be).

enlighten me el capitan.

Circumstantial evidence is still evidence. You facetiously call it "solid" as if you expect all evidence to be solid. If all evidence were solid then we wouldn't need the word. It would be "proof of..." instead of "evidence of..."

That doesn't even meet the "preponderance of evidence" standard in my book, circumstantial or not.

I'm ok with circumstantial evidence. I don't see it here, based on 1 fact and 1 guy running his mouth.

FFS if you're just going to crash the plane in the goddamn ocean why bother with all the "hey lets' disable all this tracking shit and fly around for 7 hours" garbage.

FBI said nothing big from the hard drives:

Shady stuff goes on in third-world countries. If the Malaysian government was sponsoring a drug run or had human cargo for trafficking or something, that would clearly explain why they wouldn't want to release the manifest. Doesn't necessarily need to be something as sinister as weapons.

The pilot needed some time to think, maybe wasn't sure of his plan.

If this pilot decided that crashing his plane full of people was a reasonable course of action then all of his other decisions would have seemed reasonable as well. Wanting to just disappear isn't uncommon for the distraught.

At this point it's still all just BS until parts and pieces are identified for certain though.

This story still out there?

Yeah I know it is.

Basically some guy in a third world country was piloting a plane screwed the pooch for whatever reason and killed a lot of people.

And a lot of people are trying to figure out why and maybe after spending craploads of money looking for them someone will find out why someday.

Looks like a second day of weather keeping the planes grounded. Ships still out but doubt they'd be able to see much even if it hits the hull.

The crummy thing with bad weather is that it's going to throw the debris all over the place & move it "down river".

The scenario is not likely based on logical thought, but possible. I mean, do we really understand the state of mind of someone who intends to crash a plane?

Do we really understand the state of mind of someone who cannot accept reality and invents convoluted scenarios that not only improbable but also highly illogical? Do we understand someone who would rather believe that terrorists flew a plane full of people to *somewhere* and killed them *somehow* and then flew the plane back and crashed it than to believe it just crashed? Do we really understand someone who convinces themselves that everyone is lying and only they know the truth?

Oh wait, we do. Its called psychosis.

So you are believing gossip and ignoring all of the other details? How would the copilot have not been able to stop him? How would no one have been able to radio for help? Why would he fly the plane so far off course? Why would he hijack the plane? Where is one piece of evidence to support what you are saying?

Ill be most interested in how the plane got so far away on its own if something took out all those electronics.

Wouldn't it make sense that the plane would get away if there was a problem with the electronics? It is the electronics that fly the plane after all.
