civil servants can't keep their mouths shut when reporters give them steak dinners

what is it about food that suddenly people are willing to accomodate people or something. if you are going to be unethical why not assk for money? because food does not necessarily always count as a bribe that can be considered criminal?

I just hope and pray the passengers and crew are safe.

Or that their families get some real answers soon. This has to be horrible for them to go through.

Just saw pics where the pilots had girls in the cockpit with them.

Jealous rage and pilot suicide?

Has that ever happened before?

Sad for all those innocent people.

Still something that in 2014 can't find where the plane went down.

With definite evidence the plane was flying after the transponder stopped reporting it's position is IMHO enough to think this plane was hijacked, thing is this is a very large aircraft, it's not designed to land on a grass or homemade surface runway and even if that was overcome somehow, a terrorist group would now have to re-fuel it to use it for a 911 type of attack. Jesus I feel badly for the family's and friends of those passengers that have for now seemed to have disappear into thin air..

There's no way any industrialized nation would let another jumbo jet attack to happen like 9/11. It would be intercepted and shot down immediately. Dumb plan is dumb. Unless they plan on crashing it into some huts in a 3rd world country without fighter jets. Ok that might work

Assuming they saw it in time.

As this case just demonstrated, radar coverage isn't that great. It managed to cross the entire width of Malaysia (which admittedly isn't that far) without provoking a response.

Even here there was that plane from Canada that made it all the way to Nashville. It crashed at the airport and still wasn't detected until the next day when people noticed the smoke.

well, I think there is an accomplice in the Malaysian air force, that let the flight pass through Malaysian air space without an intercept.

assuming this was a well planned hijack, the hijacker(s) turned off the transponder and communication channels during the Malaysian/Vietnamese radar coverage switch over and turned around before entering Vietnamese airspace; I don't think anyone would risk this much planning and effort by flying through Malaysian air space unidentified, unless they know they wouldn't be intercepted.

again, this is pure conjecture, but maybe this is why the Malaysian government appears to be stalling the process, it's an embarrassment to the country.

and when did the vietnamese and the malaysians switch over to each other with radar coverage?

Does Malaysia really have an airforce to scramble? I'm just wondering. I don't imagine them having much of a force at all. The country is so small you could probably fly over it in 15 minutes. They probably couldn't even get a plane off the ground in that time.

probably, i don't know if they do or not, but if their air force don't even scramble jets to intercept, then what's the point of having an air force when you can't even protect your own airspace.

they are rich enough to afford some quality jets. they are not cambodia or laos.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Royal_Malaysian_Air_Force

actually looks like they have a number of advanced fighter jets.

nevermind i got what you were saying.

you meant they shut off the transponder and turned around before they entered vietnamese radar coverage

the vietnamese and malaysian radar coverage should overlap but as it seems what is being reported the infrastructure is not that great over there

The media coverage is getting more and more ridiculous and I think that's why the handling of this situation seems really bad. In an effort to "scoop" one another, these idiotic media sources like CNN will report every tidbit without vetting it, analyzing it, etc. Just read an article over there that the pilot of the flight was a flight simulator hobbyist and CNN and other media seemed to imply that it was odd for a pilot to build a flight simulator and play with it at home. The idiocy is overwhelming.

Its increasingly looking like it was either pilot(s) suicide or the pilot(s) hijacking the plane. Without knowing the specifics, the plane could have been transitioning from a radar environment to non radar. Once notified they were in a non radar environment they knew they could fly undetected and could turn the plane off course.

If you look at the turn - it wasn't back towards KL but rather laterally to the west. Like I said earlier turning the transponder off doesn't make the plane disappear from radar. Once the plane transitioned to a radar environment it would just show up as a target which is my guess at what they saw at 2 am. Depending on the radar's capabilities they should be able to determine the aircraft's altitude.

Another guess is that the plane went back into a non radar environment since they don't have anything else on the plane past 2 am. That area was searched and debris was not found so it probably safe to assume that it continued on somewhere.

Its probably safe to assume that either one of the pilot's was incapacitated since I doubt they would allow the other pilot to go rogue OR the pilots were working together. I mean its also possible that the flight deck was compromised and a passenger(s) hijacked the plane as well.

I'm not even 100% certain they can ascertain that the target that was observed at 2 am was intact MH370 since there wouldn't be any data associated with the target since the transponders were off. If it was MH370 then you would have to take that point and extend it in every direction 4-5 hours @ 560mph ~ 2,800 miles. That would be a massive area to search but you would be able to determine if the plane was put in the ocean or landed at some unknown location. Putting an aircraft of that size down is going to require a surface free of obstacles and at least 7,000 feet in length....not sure how many places you are going to find like that.

Idiots.

It's as if he chose to be a pilot because he liked to FLY? OMG.

Koing

there is nothing wrong with having a flight simulator at home, but it does cast some suspicion, they need to find out what kind of simulations he was running. If he was practicing landing in a remote airstrip in somalia, then I'd say that's a big red flag.

Are you joking?

There were two pilots: the Captain was a 50 year-old veteran and the copilot was a 27 year-old guy. The Captain was the one who was the flight simulator hobbyist and was also active on some flight simulator forums and apparently even posted his flight sim rig on Youtube. I'd say the 27 year-old is more likely to be the one to look at.

Thats probably the max of the range of its last reported position at 2 am. Looking at the map it could have crossed into India (towards Iran) but I'm sure they would have detected that on radar. It could have made a turn south and hugged the western coast of Australia too (although that would be stretching it).

no, but are you joking?
So the captain gets an automatic pass just because he's a 50 year old veteran? That silk air captain was also a veteran mind you.

point is they both should be investigated along with everyone else on board that plane.

The idea that because a veteran, 50 year-old pilot is under increased suspicion because he built himself a nice rig for Microsoft FSX and then posts online in FS forums and Youtube to show it off is preposterous.
