Men could soon choose birth control injections
A large study published Monday in the Journal of Clinical Endocrinology and Metabolism indicates that testosterone shots for men may aid in birth control, according to a report by UPI news agency.
A study in China of more than 1,000 men between the ages of 20 and 45 showed 99 percent success rate at preventing pregnancy.
"This one measures up pretty well," said Nancy Snyderman, NBC News Chief Medical Editor. "Obviously when we talk about ways of preventing pregnancy, we talk about birth control pills, condoms, IUDs. One thing that young people want to know, if you're talking about birth control pill and condoms, you're talking about reversible forms of birth control, you're not talking about having a vasectomy, having tubes tied. The fact that you can have an injection, that it works while you take it, but when you stop it you get sperm counts back, that's very interesting in this study."
