A while back females had lower car insurance due to the insurance companies saying that males were more prone to race and all....is this still effective? Or did they realize it's discrimination? Just curious since a friend of mine is finally gonna get her car soon

Me and my sister are only a year apart and are in that age group. Her insurance is lower by a decent amount. So, yes, they do have it better....

WTF???

I am 20 and have tickets on my record and I don't pay that much in two years for a Mustang GT and a Ford Explorer. Wow.

Yes, but I drive a Civic. Therefore, I'm an Illegal Street Racer, who spends all night drag-racing down crowded streets and all day running over young children and puppies.

F***ing corporate stereotypes.

Civic? You nuts?

Try a 10-year-old bigass pickup. They're low to insure because your personal injury amount is pretty much nil. Your collision coverage for the other guy goes up, because if you're in an Urban Tank, you'll be fine, but the other poor SOB will have his sh!t ruined fiercely.

I see more women get into accidents than men. But when I do see men get into accidents, they are 10 times worse.

Sad but true (in my experience.) When it's a man at fault, it tends to be "Accident Due To Stupidity" like running a red, reckless, or DUI. When it's a woman, it's "Oops, there was a car there!" "No, the brake is the other pedal" and "Honey, R puts you in reverse"

Women have more accidents...
but Men have higher claims

Basically women have fender benders, guys total cars.

Still though it's disgusting that I have to pay almost $7000/year insurance while a girl my age can get away with $2000 (or less), even with a few accidents/tickets.

Bingo. A 4x4 truck will get classed into a "potential off-road vehicle" and raise the payments on major frame/chassis/drivetrain damage. A 2wd "street truck" gets off easy.

Its all risk classifications...has nothing to do with sterotypes. You rates are based on the limited amount of years you've had insurance (and to a lesser degree your vehicle which has lots of comp claims). AFAIK Canada doesn't have the pip problems that plague states like NJ.

I don't know where everyone is digging up these underwriting guidelines...most are simply not the main cause of your premiums....y'all must work for the nuts at Allstate...(where everything is "somewhat" your fault...

It's not discrimination because the insurance companies have data that shows what factors make a person more or less expensive to insure. It's called actuarial science.
