Yeah, but debut weekends are almost always good. A movie has to be a real dog to NOT have one. I always get a kick when the "news" comes out and says the hottest new movie out took the #1 spot from the OLD hottest movie, that enjoyes that status the past few weeks. Wow, REALLY??

Sure, because the masses believed the hype surrounding this mediocre movie. The important number will be the drop off for the next weekend. I am betting it will be around 50%.

Too many industry types want a "comeback" film for Angelina Jolie after her breast cancer because stories like that help sell tickets, magazines, etc. There was far too much hype from the get go around this movie. Plus, she simply isn't a great actress.

I will say Maleficent is probably a good role for her. Lots a CG going to distract the viewer from her so so acting.

This movie just didn't work.

And, the basic theme of the whole movie - beauty is the most important thing that matters in the world.

Halfway through the movie I just said to myself, Aurora is Sansa Stark - they do absolutely nothing, contribute nothing, no value whatsoever to the world except that they are princesses with incredible beauty - therefore making them the most valued person in their world.

I can usually watch movies geared towards kids, but this movie was utterly painful.
