I hope there are more stories like this maybe other locale companies Target and Best Buy will mimic this good news.

http://www.startribune.com/mall-of-...-closing-on-thanksgiving-this-year/396016881/

The nation's biggest mall has drawn a line in the sand when it comes to opening on Thanksgiving Day.

In the past few years, the Mall of America was among the growing crop of retailers and malls that swung open their doors on Thanksgiving night to stretch Black Friday amid a fierce battle for consumers' holiday spending.

But no more.

The Bloomington megamall notified employees and tenants Wednesday morning that it is reversing course this year and will close down as many of its operations as possible on the holiday. Nickelodeon Universe and the movie theaters will be closed for Thanksgiving for the first time in its 24-year history.

The mall's 520-plus stores will still have the option to open on Thanksgiving, but mall officials expect fewer will choose to do so as a result.

Also i hope the stores at the MOA heed the advice of the building owner and choose not to open on Thanksgiving day, but per the article they can open on Thanksgiving if they want.

Un-American! Creeping decency is going to be death of consumerism.

Don't worry, they'll be staffed by 3am the next day to prepare for the Black Friday shoppers.

I would not be against stuff actually being closed on holidays. Retail workers deserve those days off too. It's bad enough that they make minimum wage.

My job is a bit different, I work at a NOC, so it's 24/7. I might even end up working Christmas this year. We get compensated for that though, like double time or something like that if you work a holiday.

Sure, lemme just pull a mountain of cash and experience out of my ass real quick...
That works.

Otherwise, spend 60 hrs/wk salary learning your industry, for a long time, making craptastic wages. And save your pennies so that, one day, you can work for yourself. Or make your grades and get a decent paying job. There are plenty of 30 y.o. guys here making bank.

I did the former for 20 years after effing up my free education. And it sucked (not as bad as digging the ditches I dug after college but....)

I value the 20 years of knowledge I learned/paid for. It's what I have today to make decent $$.

What's scary is a lot of companies now have IP agreements where you're not allowed to work a job or start a business using the knowledge you gained from the company. Basically they don't want you to work in the same industry. It does not happen a lot, but it happens, and I feel it will start happening more.

Yeah if they give some kind of compensation then it's not a bad deal. That's how it is where I work, I forget if it's double time or double time and a half, I just know that if you work Christmas it's huge cash, because it's 2 holidays. (Boxing day too). But I imagine most retailers arn't unionized so you'd be doing regular wages at most places.

The non competes have failed here. Granted you can't take company info or property but they can't stop you from working in your chosen field.

For me, I can't take a customer list but the customers are welcome to find me. I'm sure the intellectual side is exponentially more complicated.

I just sell hotdogs...

Remember when regular clerks at Blockbuster Movies had non compete clauses, that was ridiculous!
