Is the retail version that much better than the freeware?
The paid version actively monitors your traffic; the free one only scans for and cleans ups nasties. Wouldn't be without it.
Got three copies for the three family members I've built computers for. Two already required windows reinstalls after picking up spyware. Fixing that kind of thing is my least favorite part of "building" rigs for people...
MSE is an antivirus program, with antimalware capabilities. As such, its primary focus is to deal with a virus.
MBAM is antimalware, and its main concern is dealing with malware. I can tell you with 100% certainty that it does a better job in its area of expertise than MSE. I've cleaned dozens of PCs over the past year that MSE didn't properly protect, using MBAM to clean what MSE did not.
Look at it like this: you don't use a fork to eat soup. You use the proper tool for the job, and in this case a PC with only MSE on it is not nearly as protected as one with MSE and MBAM.

Yeah, can any one tell me if it's truly "lifetime" throughout any future hardware changes I make?
Does this give liftime downloads also? What if I swap motherboards will it still work?
Excellent - thanks to the OP and esquared.
I found this on the malwarebytes forum

"Unlike a lot of computer programs that have the "key" built-in the particular CD you buy, Malwarebytes uses a license "key" sent to you by the distributor or Cleverbridge in an e-mail. THAT key is good on ANY single installation of MBAMPro no matter where you get the program; off the CD; from Softpedia; Download.com; etc. et al.
Simple GOOGLE search will find a copy for you: Attached Image: ScreenHunter_01 Jan. 25 12.49.gif
BUT, as Firefox mentioned in his post above, that particular "key" is only valid for ONE installation at a time. If you decide to install MBAMPro from your current computer to a new computer, you MUST remove the "key" from your current installation before using it on the new computer installation. (Follow Firefox's instructions in his post above..)
Hope this helps to clear up any confusion.
Steve.. "
It appears good forever.
You just need to uninstall the program from the old computer and put in in the new one.

From the above link, Use this uninstall key:

sounds like you'd be in a bit of trouble if you forget to uninstall MBAM before you reformat
